Since you are struggling so much with some serious emotional and family issues (my heart goes out to you), you may want to aim for just 4 hours of CPAP per night for a while. That might take some of the stress off you while still giving you some therapy. Using a mask and PAP machine is a surprisingly big change - my life is going well right now and I still find it difficult - and you already have a lot on your plate!Imogen wrote:I have now filled in all details on my profile as suggested. Hope it is OK I have tried the saline spray as suggested and it did help me get to sleep plus I haven't had the problem with the moisture again . However this morning I once again woke with my nose so blocked I could not breathe I can't tell you the relief I felt when I took the mask of and could breathe.
I have the humidifier on 5 Tried 4 and just could get enough air I thought I would try 6 tonight . Sorry to sound so painful but I am really having a battle with this .
When I had the sleep study the Dr told me I was having 50 episodes an hour and prescribed a setting if 7 I think from memory.
The diagnosis was a shock and I really don't want to bother my family too much with this as my husband to whom I am a full time carer is battling with terminal cancer and my children are carrying me enough at the moment since my son and daughter in law were killed some months ago. I am wring this not to sound poor me or for sympathy but to explain my need for advice and assistance outside my usual support network if that makes sense .
I am just finding it difficult with this machine on top of everything else

Re: Struggling
Thanks Julie will check out the masks and try one more night with the saline spray
Re: Struggling
You might also consider changing your mask. Try either nasal pillow mask or maybe the ResMed Swift FX Nano cushion mask.
I was unable to successfully use the Wisp because the very slight pressure of it on my nose caused a lot of nasal congestion. Take your fingers and pressure gently on the sides of your nose up by where the mask rests on the bridge/sides of your nose and see if the pressure causes congestion.
This happens to me...I was able to successfully use the Nano though.
The nasal pillows are even a better choice because nothig sits on the bridge of the nose.
Also....if you feel air starved (and the nose is open) when you first mask up then it's likely because the starting pressure is too low.
I think your machine has this thing called Sensawake which uses a really low pressure to start with while awake and then when you go to sleep the pressure increases. You may need to turn Sensawake off.

Re: Struggling
Sounds like you may need less humidity, not more. Why not try one day of nasal rinsing (not just sprays) and then run your machine that night with humidity off or on a low setting? Once I tried that I found I could clear my stuffed nose in a few breaths of dry air and I still don't wake up with a dry nose.

Thanks to everyone for the advice Nice to know I have the support . Last nightI really experimented Firstly put humidity up to 6 After a restless 4 hours got up and washed and dried mask I then turned humidity off and had a sound sleep for a further 4 hours and woke without gasping for breath Julie I think you are right re the mouth breathing
Will see how it goes tonight I can't afford another mask but thought I would try a chin strap if I am still having problems
thanks to you all once again
