pb, does your current insurance absolutely require a new sleep study in order to cover equipment and supplies? I ask because I changed insurance at the beginning of the year and expected that my new insurance would require a sleep study but to my surprise they did not. They accepted my previous sleep study report. So then it was just a matter of bringing a copy of the report to my new doctor, who wrote the Rx, and verified that I'd had a sleep study and a diagnosis for my insurance, and I was good to go. Can you bring your 2005 sleep study report in to any of your doctors (or even your dentist), and get a new Rx? This could work unless your insurance specifically requires a sleep study more recent than 2005.

One possible route to take without a prescription is to buy a used machine: check Craigslist or wait for STLMark to come back on with another of his great deals - he tends to list one or two machines per month. If you take the Craigslist approach, be very careful to make sure the seller really knows which model it is. If Mark is selling it, just buy it. He has gotten rave reviews from everyone who has bought a machine from him - he doesn't sell bricks.

This post has really hit me where it hurts. How long were you without XPAP before the study?

I do not know what my untreated numbers are. I was given a machine and told to try it. That’s because my biggest problem is insomnia! I came away from that with a AHI of 3.8 with while I was on a beginning pressure of 4 that went to a maximum of 8. The tech concluded I had OSA and I went to my doctor. The doctor wanted to know how I felt. He said that if I felt better after two days of “CPAP trail” that was good enough for him. He gave me a prescription and told me that if I decided I want another RX for something else he would provide it. You’ve got to take command of this. If you feel better with a machine you have to have one. Hell I’ll order one for you.

B-12 injections are a life time thing. If you need them, it doesn't go away.
With the diet you describe, a "normal" person would get enough B-12 to be fine.
Since your husband doesn't, it is likely because he has an insufficient supply of intrinsic factor, the chemical that allows the intestinal track to absorb B-12 from food.

My ND told me that the standard B12 levels are too low. The real good B12 levels are much higher than what doctors look for. Their levels are for sustaining life with the ND is interested in long term maintenance.
