CMS50D+ Oximeter

Post by Krelvin » Wed Aug 13, 2014 1:58 am

I got one of these this afternoon and played with it a bit today. Overall, it will do what I am looking for though I am still attempting to figure out the "events" part. Installing the software was easy, getting it to download took a bit of figuring out but now that I have done it a few times, I've got it.

While it doesn't have a clock, it is not that big of a deal since I record when I go to sleep in my electronic diary. Attempting to match it up with my BiPAP is not really doable right now as my M-Series doesn't work with Sleephead and I use encore basic to do that.

So this afternoon, I decided to take a nap... I turned it the same time I went down and the nap lasted just about an hour and 15 mins. I didn't turn the record off right away because I was still unsure of the download process at that time. That is a bit of a short nap for me, normally they are closer to 90 mins but there was a cat thing going on and it woke me up.

This evening, I downloaded the data and played with the reports a bit. This is what they call the OxiMetry Report:

I plan on using it over the next few days to before my upcoming Sleep Study next Tuesday. I really had no idea what my Sp02 rates are since the only other time I have had this done was during the first sleep study 8yrs ago.

I wish my SpO2 levels while sleeping looked as good as yours.

Your O2 and pulse numbers look good, but you have kind of a high amount of Artifacts. This means that the unit is uncomfortable on your finger. Keep an eye on this and you may find a different finger may work better. Of course it is unnatural to have something clamped to your finger while you sleep, but...

I regularly see artifacts in the 0.0 - 0.1% range as a comparison.

That was my first use of it while sleeping. I used it last night for close to 3 hours when I removed it. It is even messier and at one point cost to the start, I moved it from on finger to another and apparently put it on upside down. I caught that later and fixed it. but it is clear that I was taking it off occasionally causing spikes.

Over all the readings appear to be okay. Was not really sure what I would see. My BiPAP use is very steady with decent AHI and night sleeps typically in the 7.5 hour range for the night.

Might upload the last one which is messier looking if I get a chance. Thanks for the input.

The one from last night. the big blank spot is when I switched hands and put it on the finger upside down. At sometime I noticed this, most likely when I went to move it again. It is not the most comfortable thing, heavier than one you would have in the hospital and the wrist unit would have been better, but the cost was 3x unless I wanted to wait almost a month for delivery. Just wanted to see what the basic levels were like. Don't plan on using it daily.

It takes awhile to find a position that is tolerable. Many people wear it for a few hours then slip it off in the middle of the night. Over time you will figure it out.

mainly, you're looking for a pretty even pulse rate and no big dips in the o2 level, and staying above 88% (discounting the spikes when you'd take it off or whatever)

yours looks good.

thanks for the input.

Ready for my sleep study next week. Even picked up a new mask as my other one is more than 6 months old and most likely won't hold up well sleeping on my back which is what they will want me to do.

If you are up for it...

Bring your oximeter along with you to the sleep study. You may have to wear it on a different finger because their instrumentation takes priority, but it can give you a comparison to what they are seeing during the sleep study.

That is actually a cool idea. Not like I am going to be real comfy anyway. They having me bringing my BiPAP machine with me already which I thought was odd, but normal I guess.
