Newbie caught in a Windtunnel!

Hey all,

I got my CPAP device on Tuesday and have been a disaster since. I cannot fall asleep due to the loud wind tunnel my mask is giving me. I have a Quattro Full Face mask with the forehead adjuster. It seems the seal is fine and nothing is leaking in, but inside the mask is a constant wind that doesn't go away. Is this normal?

Also, I have a Respironics System One Auto CPAP and Humidifier and when I plug in both the system makes a loud breathing sound too.

Is this normal? I yearn to sleep!!!

That mask is good for the right person, but I question the machine you have. Ask your doctor to prescribe the ResMed S9 for you, the Respironics cannot keep up with your demand.

I have it set to 4 which is a very low pressure. I just don't understand. So frustrating! I guess I have to go back to the specialist on Monday.

When you say set it ti "4" are you talking about the heating element?
What is your pressure on the digital reading window?

Respironics System One Auto CPAP and Humidifier is actually a good set up. It's got to be the mask. The 4 might be a ramp-up because that's normal breathing pressure and you must be hearing leaks. if your mask is leaking somewhere , it will sound like a windstorm. I wish I knew where you could go to try some different masks. The mask is everything with this illness.

there's *nothing* wrong with respironics, they make fine equipment, just as good, and in some ways better than resmed.

resmed also makes crap (anything with the 'escape' name on it.
