Daytime sleeping 100% curable??
Do some people still fall asleep during the day no matter how well their CPAP/BiPAP machine is adjusted?
Should falling asleep during the day be 100% curable?

Clownshow,
Which Remstar machine do you have? I think the Plus model only gives you compliance info. You will also need the card reader for your smartcard.
Here's a link to a package with both.

Re: Daytime sleeping 100% curable??
There are some patients on "optimized" CPAP therapy that just can't seem to shake residual EDS ("Excessive Daytime Sleepiness"). Researchers are trying to get a handle on why this is. In the U.S. Proivigil has recently been approved to supplement (not replace) CPAP therapy for these mysterious patients who are otherwise CPAP-optimized but just can't seem to shake EDS.Anonymous wrote:Do some people still fall asleep during the day no matter how well their CPAP/BiPAP machine is adjusted?

In these cases, CPAP optimization should first be verified, concomitant sleep/energy disorders should next be exonerated, then Provigil may be considered on a trial basis toward eliminating residual EDS.

Daytime sleepiness could be from other medical causes too. We focus on apnea only here but there are 80+ other sleep disorders alone that could contribute to daytime sleepiness like restless leg disorder, alpha wave intrustion, etc. There are also cases of apnea that do not responds to xPAP- both OSA & CSA- and thankfully now Provigil is approved in the US to help with excessive daytime sleepiness.
CPAP is only one part of the picture- anyone with sleep disorders should be practicing good sleep hygiene to help improve our overall sleep.

Thanks. I also have a RemStar Plus.wading thru the muck! wrote:The plus is not compatable with the software. You should consider getting the Remstar Auto w/ C-flex. It will give you loads of data and will automaticaly adjust your pressure to compensate for changing needs.
How much does the Auto with software cost?
My PPO paid big rental fees then finally bought it. I don't think they would buy the Auto.
