nasal congestion when first waking up

Post by michelle679 » Sun Aug 10, 2014 11:15 am

I have been on my cpap machine for about a week. I started with a nasal pillow but found myself taking it off in my sleep without realizing it. I now use the nasal mask and find its much more comfortable. I have noticed a ton of nasal congestion when I first wake up and as the day goes on I feel super Dry. Anyone else having these issues? I have humidifier set at 2-3 and use saline spray during the day.

You could try a higher setting on the humidifier--a little bit at a time until you achieve your "Goldilocks" setting.

thank you!

Ok I was worried I was congested because of too much from the humidifier so I actually lowered it but still had the same results. I think it only goes to a 5. I guess I will keep playing with it ) thanks again.

If it is fairly humid at the moment where you live, it could be too high (I've had to turn mine off entirely), so don't be afraid to try.

Are you using the heated hose or the regular hose?
The heated hose allows for more customization of the humidity. The heated hose has a black coupling end where it attaches to the humidifier. I would try increasing the humidity since lowering it didn't help.

Ok no heated hose. Maybe I'm still listing the wrong machine. Hmm wish I had the box and book that would've been with it lol

you are listing the wrong machine, yours is the plus, not the pro, and while you may not have a heated hose, it's available for that model.

Ok weird ??? Is it normal to feel air coming out the front of the mask? Not just when I breathe out

Yes if you are feeling the air move around the vent holes. All masks have some sort of venting system to blow out the carbon dioxide that you exhale. And yes, you can feel it move even if not in the exhale phase of respiration. How much air movement you feel will depend on the pressure you use and the mask's own venting system. Some have a more diffused venting system so the movement is barely felt and some will feel like a jet engine. Well, maybe not quite that bad but it can be pretty forceful especially when it ends up blowing on a bed partner.
