Second sleep study, will they know if I drink?
Re: Second sleep study, will they know if I drink?
Neither the amount of alcohol consumed nor the frequency with which it is consumed speak to dependence. Whether or not one can easily skip consuming without anxiety or negative emotional response speaks to dependence. Some alcoholics drink only once per week. Some alcoholics drink 1-2 beers every night. Some alcoholics abstain for long periods, followed by binges. The question of dependence can only be answered by negative effects of skipping out on the alcohol altogether.

I am not an AA member but will say if you do anything "everyday" you are dependent - whether you want to admit it or not is another story completely. Just as we have become dependent on sleep or food.

Seems bizarre to advise and allow "sleep aids" as if they are not a drug. They're a drug! You could be dependent on them too. You could take too many and drive under their influence.
Agree with the person who wrote that you should take your sleep study under the same conditions as when you normally sleep. Like, at home, with your usual diet. Otherwise how can you tell whether the CPAP makes any difference?
The big problem is that the sleep studies take place under horrendous sleeping conditions. Like, right, I usually sleep with a giant strange man in the next room sharing my bathroom, with wires and gel all over me, on a pathetic bed with too-small sheets that slip off, with light pouring in under the doorway, with a thumping air conditioner, with a technician watching TV that was quite audible... I could go on.
I followed instructions and didn't have my usual wine with dinner that night. But really, was that an issue with all that other stuff going on?

Of course they will know if you are drinking. You will be on camera. They will see your empties.
I am glad I can't relate to your concerns since I never drink and I fall asleep easily, even when fully wired. Taking tests never have bothered me.
I passed mine with flying colors, scored 84 AHI, not like you wimps that don't get above the teens or twentys.

You need to follow your normal routine. If you drink daily, then drink before the study, otherwise your test results will not show the true data. Sit in the parking lot and drink the beer or have someone drop you off, it's a liability for the lab which is why you can't drink there.

I say: don't drink. If you have to, then drink the alcohol at the facility.
