Re: current Auto CPAP machines there are a number of major global brands, ResMed (Australian); Fisher & Paykel (Kiwi); Respironics/Phillips (Dutch), and there American brands — which I doubt you will be able to get in Australia.
All of the brands are respected, they all support the major required functionality. Of course there are differences between them which you would need to investigate.
I can only speak personally about the brand I have direct experience with, ResMed. I currently have a ResMed AutoSet S9 with H5i humidifier (with ResMed AirFit N10 mask). It is a good machine — when I can get a long running average AHI of 1.00 using APAP + EPR (compared to a much higher untreated OSA index) I am not going to complain! It's quiet, obviously has full auto CPAP functionality plus data storage, slightly retro styling.
One way to reduce your list of possible machines is to check to see if they are supported by SleepyHead software, which is a consideration if you are wanting to look at the data for your sleep sessions. Each of the machines have their own software, but SleepHead is very popular, I prefer it to the ResMed official software.
Other people will no doubt give you their personal impressions of the machines they use.

Re: New Machines
Check the links in my signature line. The ResMed S9 AutoSet and Elite or Philips Respironics System One (PRS1) Auto or Pro have significant advantages over the other models and brands in terms of data collection.
Be careful. There are some confusingly similar names and CPAP sellers willing to take advantage of you.

Re: New Machines
The S9 autoset sells at 900$, if you end up paying more you might consider ordering it online from the US. Probably your insurance won't cover it this way.
