IntelliPap Auto Bilevel DV57 High AHI

Post by Jeannh » Sat Aug 02, 2014 3:31 pm

I bought an IntelliPap Auto Bilevel for traveling, and just returned from a 3 week trip. At home, I've used the ResMed S9 VPAP Auto for 10 months. It has been a life-changer for me! I generally have an AHI of about 2.

Some settings are named differently on the IntelliPap. I used it before my trip to try it out and adjust, and finally got it comfortable, although it's not like my S9. Even though I felt pretty good on my trip, the reported AHI on the display each morning was 17-20!

The IntelliPap mirrors my S9 basic settings: 7-13, pressure support of 4. The "new" settings for me are:
- the IPAP/EPAP rounding, which I set to 3, which eliminated the "breathing too soon" feeling
- the Inspiratory/Expiratory trigger, which I adjusted to 8, also to address "breathing too soon"
- Apneas, which came set to 5%, with a Duration of 10 seconds
- Hypopneas, which came set to 50%, with a Duration of 10 seconds

I'm thinking that the last two settings may impact the AHI algorithm. They are not in the clinical manual. I tried calling cpap.com (where I purchased the IntelliPap) today, but they disappointingly would not help me problem-solve at all, just kept referring me to the doctor or the manufacturer (both send me to the provider for fine-tuning). So, I'm hoping someone here may have experience with this machine.

Thanks for any help.

Yes, but not bilevel knowledgable... I've been very happy with mine for years now. Wish I could help, but don't really understand what you're referring to as such.

Is your elevated AHI primarily Hyponeas?
