Gene mutation that makes you need less sleep

Post by BleepingBeauty » Sat Aug 02, 2014 2:12 pm

More interesting stuff from IFLS:

"Researchers studying 100 pairs of twins have identified a gene mutation that may confer a unique advantage for the carrier: the coveted ability to function normally on less than six hours of sleep a night. The genetic variant also appears to provide resistance to the neurobehavioral effects of sleep deprivation, according to new findings published in the journal Sleep this week."

Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy. ;))

Of all the things to wish for in the genetic lottery; this would not be at the top of my list.
Maybe a better metabolism; or a wider air passage, better eyesight, or maybe a bit taller.
The list is too long, and these things are not in my fate. Better to love the body I was given.
Like I said the other day when my trick knee was turning each step into pain,
"As long as this is the only thing that hurts, I'll take it."

Well said, CF, and I agree. Personally, I like my usual eight hours every night, but I can see needing less sleep as a real advantage to a serious go-getter (which is not me!) who doesn't think there are enough hours in the day.
