Ice blocks in humidifier

Finally tried 6-7 fake reusable ice cubes in my S9/H5i set up last night with humidity on 2 and Climate Line/Heat off. The slightly cooler air was nice but it was also significantly drier - so caused some extra congestion. Overall, not worth it as the congestion was more unpleasant than the cooler air was pleasant. Net fail.

Just freeze some distilled water.

That's part 2! just trying to find the right shaped molds.

But the lower temp in the chamber will always lower delivered humidity at the lower temps - so I'm trying to figure out if raising the humidity setting without heat will compensate. Thoughts?

If you raise the humidity setting then the heater plate will warm up faster/more...melt the ice quicker but of course add a little more moisture to the air. How long are you wanting the air to be so much cooler? Meaning are you just wanting it while drifting off to sleep and after you are asleep it doesn't matter and you don't wake up during the night wanting cooler air....or do you wake fairly often and want to have the cooler air at that time also?

Use passover (with water & ice) any heat will just defeat the purpose.

Not wanting to assume one way or the other, did you use water and ice or just the ice?

Just looking for a quick cool period while I go to sleep but heating would defeat the purpose. I think the hose is too big and long for the amount of cooling power to do much good but it does lower humidity a fair amount. So I'm kinda giving up but may try making distilled water frozen blocks that fit the reservoir (not easy with the flap down on an H5i)

Wonder if there is some way to cool the air coming into the machine other than turning AC down a lot to lower ambient room temp.
A while back I saw pictures of someone's experiments with routing things so that the incoming air came in through a cooler with ice in it. It has been a while and I don't remember who it was or when I saw them.

Using passover mode won't give you the moisture your nasal mucosa wants or needs and even if it did with ice in the chamber it might not cool down the air enough to suit your wants.

You could always just fill the chamber and simply put it in the freezer. The swelling ice my destroy the chamber, but for $33 you could always get a replacement. (I would probably have the replacement BEFORE trying this.)
If it works, you could just use two chambers, and swap them out daily. Freeze one / use the other.

wrap an icepack around the hose.

it should just swell upwards.

you could get one of those small apartment refrigerators.. Put it in your bedroom and put your machine inside of it

Put the refrigerator on a timer so that it turns on 2 hours before bedtime.

Ta-Da.... cold air!!

Set the timer to turn off the Refridgerator 1 hour after bedtime...

Ta-Da warmer air !!

I like the way you think tho freezing it solid may indeed crack the chamber. Never go w/o a spare water chamber even if you are not experimenting.

Freezing it would need some room for water also, so may require more experimenting.

Maybe just start with putting the water or water + chamber into the freezer for 30 min before bed time, then adjusting time as needed. If you do have two chambers you could put the second in the freezer or fridge. Or keep the distilled right in the fridge to top off the iced down chamber.

Shooting for cool air will be easier that cool-moist air.

It's cool OR moist essentially, because the evaporation is slowed by the temp drop. Physics has beaten me.
