Leaks out of control after surgery

Post by Pinhead » Wed Jul 30, 2014 6:14 am

The good thing is this is the first day that I have woke up not in screaming pain bad thing are leaks are getting worse.

I had a TKR about a week ago. I took my machine to the hospital as I was expected to stay over night. The first night went fine leaks were ok per the smiley face on the display. I had a lot of pain during the day and in addition to the Norco 10 they were giving me another drug they put in the IV twice during the day. They could not release me that day due to the injected drug. I stayed an additional night and when I checked the leak display in the morning no smiley face, and have not seen one since.

I usually rotate between 2 cushions I wash them together and use one a few days then change to the other then wash both together. These cushions are about 6 months old and have been boiled once so far. I tried both, then opened a new cushion and tried that with the same outcome.

I did not take my humidifier to the hospital and had still been using the unit without it. Last night I used the mask fit icon and was unable to get rid of the red face. I thought that it may be the hose leaking so put the humdifer on with the heated hose. I put the mask on and played with the straps got a green face and went to sleep. This morning again the red face and very high AHI.. I know if you have bad leaks the AHI doesn't count so I'm trying to focus on leaks.

I have been sleeping on my back as I'm on a continueous motion machine that keeps my leg moving at night. Taking 1 Nocro every four hours and up 4-5 times a night for bathroom breaks. Wash my face before bed and have a fairly short goatee. I have tried the homemade linners in the past without much luck. I'm a mouth breather so nasel masks have never worked well for me.

Not opposed to shaving but have been able to control leaks in the past with it and in fact my leaks were at the best I have had them prior to surgery. I have been playing with the adjustment of the straps lately but had the same result. I put the new cushion on without changing the straps.

I do have a used opus 360, a tappap ( reboiled and now hurts my teeth had bad leaks with it anyway) and a quattro FFM

Anyone have any ideas at all. I have not looked at my data in sleephead as it is rather difficult to get to my desktop but may be able too now that I can move better

I can't control leaks on my back, my face muscles droop. Try your other masks lying on your back till you find one that stays put, and try cutting up some material to make liners.

If your AHI is high that means the machine is still able to sense events and flag them in spite of the large leak. When I really worry about large leaks is when the machine says nothing is happening because it could be that the machine is totally missing events.

When you get a chance and are able take a look at the leak graphs. Let's see just how high that large leak is and what the event category breakdown is.
Let's see if it is 30ish and for how long...or if it is 40 or higher for long period of time.

Mr Frowny face shows up when leaks are over the 24 L/min line for 30% or more of the night. If it is 31 % and the worst it got during that time period is maybe 29 L/min....maybe just live with it for a little while until you are mended a little better. The pain meds could be allowing the airway to collapse more and pressures could be increasing a lot and making it harder to manage leaks but once you are able to do away with the CPM machine and get off the pain meds and get off your back......things may return to normal.

Next trip up stairs I will get the card and try to post the graphs. No problems with the stairs but the price I pay in energy to climb.
