Still using an older APAP, but should I get a new one?

I can confirm that you can use the universal hose with the 60 series machine. I just recently used the generic hose with my PR S1 760 machine which is setup to accommodate the heated hose. It fit just fine. There is room for the generic hose to attach firmly without having to be plugged in to the electric source. The little plug in thing on the swivel is far enough away that it isn't an issue.
One can use the 60 series heated hose in the winter and a regular hose in the summer and not have any issues or have to change the lid back to the plain lid.

The heated hose is smaller in diameter but the actual coupling is standard size. So the swivel on the humidifier is still standard size.
There is a setting in the clinical menu for hose diameter size.

My wife "slapped" me in the head today and asked me why would I want to buy an older model when my insurance company will pay 80% of any cpap I buy and the difference between the two models isn't that much after reimbursement. That made sense to me, so I guess I should go for the PR One 60. I have been too busy, but I will contact my DME but I will do so shortly to get a trial of the PR One 60.

I thought about going with Cpapshop.com but I don't like how they are not clear on the models they carry. They tend to mirror Cpap.com's prices so I guess I stick with them.

The PR 60 is fine for many people.

But how much do your pressure requirements vary during the night or from night to night?

My husband's pressure requirements have a large variance. He switched from PR to ResMed AutoSet S9 because the algorithm changes pressure more rapidly in response to partial airway collapse. He is getting better therapy with the S9.

The brand spanking new ResMed AirSense 10 is now out.
Not to complicate your purchase at this late date, but I think you should at least look at it before you make up your mind.

Never buy version 1.0 of anything.

The AirSense 10 series doesn't have any great advantages over the S9.

But, if "I" were buying an APAP today, I certainly would spend some time comparing the ResMed S9 AutoSet to the new AirSense 10 AutoSet.

And although I do NOT like to be an early adopter, I dislike even more buying something that may be discontinued soon.

Unless the S9 AutoSet turns out to still be the better APAP, "I" would be buying the AirSense 10 AutoSet. A tie would still go to the AirSense 10.

Well, SleepyHead probably doesn't work with the A10 yet, so that's a big disadvantage at this time.

Hopefully, someone will get jedimark some A10 data soon and he can update the program. Heck, someone from ResMed should feed him the data. (Hint, hint.)

BTW, to be clear, it's not that the A10 is bad, it's just that the S9 is pretty darn good as it is.

Hahhaha. I have to laugh because the decision isn't getting any easier. My current machine seems to be fine now. I will take a look at the new Resmed machine as well.

I agree with Stu. I too don't like being an early adopter but at the same time having a machine that's discontinued soon is also an issue. That's actually what happened with my Respironics Legacy (remstar) so I know how that feels.

My mean pressure is around 9-11. One of the my annoyances with my current mask is when my machine is at my peak, I can hear the air inside the mask even with very good earplugs. My cpap is relatively noisy but I have it under my bed. With the mask, I often have to shift my head and neck to stifle the noise, not to be confused with mask leaks, that's another beast on it's own.

I haven't heard anything about a new Respironics model machine...since the latest was the 60 series release a little over 2 years ago with the first model line being the 560 I would be really surprised if they come up with anything new in the next year or so. The bilevels came much later that year.

I thought I would bump this thread to see if there was any news on new respironics machines or if there are any major price drops on the respironics machines that I should be getting, and of course, how things are with the newest resmed machines in terms if any new issues turned up. I haven't gotten a new cpap. Shortly after my last post, the canadian dollar took a major nose dive thanks to the leader making an unprecedented move (election strategy) and having the interest rates lowered. . everything costs now 30% more.
