Sorry to say

Post by Larry C » Sun Jul 13, 2014 7:58 am

After almost 3 complete weeks I'm still not getting any satisfying results. Two decent nights tops.
Still jumping thru hoops trying to post copies of my sleep study. Downloaded drop box now I need to do more!
Recent change from nasal mask to full face.
Any ideas?

How did you feel after your titration study? How do you feel when you wake up now? Not good from your comments ... Are you able to get any indication of your AHI from your machine now? What was your AHI during your first sleep study and your titration study? It does take time to get used to the piece of plastic/silicone on your face. It can also be difficult the way most technicians seem to set up the machines. If your starting pressure is less than 6, you may find raising that improves your sleep - I found anything less than 6 to be suffocating, and I soon found that my titrated pressure of 8 was actually comfortable as the starting pressure. Are you using the humidifier? If so, at what setting. Some people find they need no humidity, whereas others find they need the maximum level. The rest of us mostly fit somewhere between those extremes.

Posting the sleep study results is going to be helpful, but if you can't figure it out, ask and we can tell you what numbers to post. Some indication of numbers, and the particular problems you are having, will help with advising you what to try next.

Thanks. My titration study didn't go well in my opinion. Didn't sleep well and woke feeling worse than usual.
Was set at a starting pressure of 6 and that is almost suffocating. Raised to 6.5. Turned send awake off as it woke me with the changing pressure going from set point to 4. Recent upgrade to full face is more comfortable but still wake with leaks at times. Use humidifier and have been experimenting with settings.
Both studies show no stage 3 sleep is that possible?
Will post when I get a chance.
Any specific questions can easily be answered until then.
Thanks

I don't understand - you said you had set things at 6.5, so how could sense awake wake you at 4?

I notice the change in pressure. I wake often and feel starved for air at lower setting

Everyone feels starved at 4! That's normal... but why do you have things set so low?

Ask my Dr. He won't return my calls. Called supplier and they said to turn off. I understand I can set it.
Thanks

not everyone feels "starved" at four, many people do, but some don't...

4 and 20 are the default high and low machine settings, no one is actually prescribed those, though doctors who have no understanding of the equipment will tell DME's to 'just leave it wide open' instead of prescribing useful and meaningful numbers. And stop passing judgment on others here - it's not your place to do that and it's childish.

Thats the way "Sense Awake" works, lowering the pressure to 4 cmh2o if the cpap feel that the patient is going to wake up.

there you go, passing out errors as facts.

if "no one" is ever actually prescribed 4cm, then why do bog standard cpap machines allow the pressure to be set at 4?

I'm not passing judgement on you, I'm simply pointing out your erros.

Sorry Julie
Sensawake is a f&p setting to lower pressure when awakening like Lazer said.
I shouldn't assume everyone knows all equipment. Lower setting can be adjusted however.
