Physc meds and insomnia
In another thread 49er makes a reference to insomnia caused by over prescribed Physc meds. I've been reading everyday and this is the first I am learning of this.
Can anyone comment or post a link
Thanks in advance

Which thread are you referring to as my memory is bad? Here are some links on google for SSRIs and insomnia.

Wellbutrin also causes insomnia

My apologies for not carefully screening them as I am about to go out but I thought this should at least get you started.

this one: viewtopic/t98921/Is-interupted-sleep-co ... omnia.html
I had been complaining to my shrink about sleep issues for 2 years
He kept telling me it's depression
I Laugh and ask him have you ever seen a depressed person who smiles so much. I am clearly not depressed. He said waking early from sleep was entirely caused by depression He tried talking me into more meds but I was adamant. I had been on 50 MG of Paxcil for 10 years and I did not want to go down that road again
What a shmuck

Smart woman that you didn't allow your doctor to prescribe more meds! You really have to search, but there are doctors whose first line of defense is not a psych med.
However, insomnia can be the result of depression but also can be from psych meds. You also mention that you "had" been on Paxil for 10 years. I presume from that that you are no longer taking Paxil. How did you wean off the Paxil? I have also read that withdrawal from any psych med too fast can also cause insomnia, among other things. Please google... running out to get granddaughter.

How frustrating! With that type of logic, he has set things up so you have no chance to escape from his preconceived judgment of you. Unfortunately, many psychiatrists and other doctors engage in similar type behavior whereas everything is black and white and there are no exceptions to their rules.
Good for you for refusing meds and good luck in getting things sorted out.

thanks
I am off everything except .5mg clonopin
CPAP is helping with the early waking and fragmented sleep
Slept 6 hours straight last night (first time in 10 years)

Hi EMS
My wife is the smart woman in our family
I went off it cold turkey. (I had been suffering from sever night sweats and would wake up soaked and dehydrated. After 3 specialists could not find the reason, I reread the side affects of the drug and night sweats was listed as number 1) Its been two years. I was on the max dose of 50 mg. I worked in lower Manhattan during the 9/11 attack and it affected me significantly. I could not go on a subway for years
That was a tough time
In the 10 years I was on it I never shed a tear. After a week of withdrawal, I was sobbing from long distance commercials
It took about a year before I finally felt "right"
Thanks
John
Re: Physc meds and insomnia
This kind of post reminds me of why I'm so grateful to my own psychiatrist: He's been the one who's given me the necessary cover these last three years for dealing with my other docs when they insist that all I need is an antidepressant or xanax for anxiety to make the insomnia go away. I can tell them directly: I'm seeing a psychiatrist and he says that I do not need medication. Moreover he says that my previous reaction to certain mood stabilizers and my genetic anomalies indicate that I should be very, very cautious about cautious about taking any kind of psychiatric medication including antidepressants, mood stabilizers, and anti anxiety medications.Day_Dreamer wrote:I had been complaining to my shrink about sleep issues for 2 years

He bills under "mood disorder, not otherwise specified" and he's had ample opportunity to push a diagnosis of "depression" if he really wanted to.

I'm very sorry to read that you had to go thru that! The worst horror of our lifetime! I, like so many people, watched the horror on TV. Hard to believe it's over ten years now.
