Snores and Snorts?
After trying several nasal masks and nasal pillows, I decided on the SWIFT FX pillows. (at least mask du jour). Last night I caught myself sleeping in a "snore/snort" mode and it jolted me and woke me up. I thought using an autopap machine, that it is supposed to catch these before the snorts/snores happen? I thought perhaps I would have a high AHI this morning, but the machine this morning said 0.8. And also, my DME stated that if the treatment works, you are not supposed to wake up to go to the bathroom at all in the middle of the night if you stopped drinking liquids at 8pm? I still get up at least once in the middle of the night for bathroom break, instead of 3 times prior to CPAP. Does anyone know why there are still snorts/snores that do not get resolved with the air? My pressure goes up to 14.8, leaks 16. Thank you.

Re: Snores and Snorts?
The machine in auto mode doesn't always have the ability to prevent every little possible collapse of the airway in a time fashion because of the minimum setting and the time it takes to go from the minimum pressure to where the pressure can hold open the airway better.
If it is too much of an annoyance the usual remedy is simply a little more minimum pressure.
Regarding the nocturia....not all needing to pee during the night is related to OSA and if not related to OSA then the best AHI in the world isn't going to fix it.
What does your Flow limitation and snore graph look like?
Not everything is covered by the AHI number.

Re: Snores and Snorts?
Thanks Pugsy; my pressure is set at 10-20 on Autopap. (no ramping now) Do you think that I should set the minimum to 11?
Can you please tell me how to do the graph and flow limitation and snore graph? I am not too computer savvy, so if there is a way to explain it to me, I appreciate it. Do I take the chip out of the REs Med S9 and do something with that? Thanks Pugsy! You are better than the sleep doc!

Re: Snores and Snorts?
To get the graphs you have to use the software...like SleepyHead and you have to remove the SD card and put it in your computer and download the data.
I don't know that I would necessarily increase the minimum from 10 to 11 without evaluating the software reports.
I don't like to make changes without seeing what I am dealing with first.
And are we talking about 1 or 2 "snorts" or 10 to 20 snorts with awakenings?
If you need help with SleepyHead process someone else will have to step in as I am leaving the house shortly. Grandson is here for a visit and we have things to do today. Won't be back until late tonight.
I have some slightly outdated SH tutorials on how to use SH in my signature line to get you started though.
It sounds to me like SleepyHead might be easier for you to manage and get the snore or Flow limitation graphs than ResScan might be and that's why I would recommend it for you right now.

Thanks Pugsy: You have a wonderful day. I am at work now anyways, and can't do anything until later perhaps or even tomorrow evening!
Thanks, and let's keep in touch. Have a great day!

Re: Snores and Snorts?
Hello Pugsy, well I did receive the report from my doctor from the chip on the Res Med S9. Is there a place that I can attach it to you? I don't have a scanner at home but I have it in a PDF attachment.
I really would love for you to see this graph from the sleep doc from my Res Med. Thanks Pugsy.

robysue is working on a beginners guide to sleepyhead over on 'another board':Luthie2006 wrote:Hello Pugsy, well I did receive the report from my doctor from the chip on the Res Med S9. Is there a place that I can attach it to you? I don't have a scanner at home but I have it in a PDF attachment.

take a look at it, it should help you get sleepyhead for your computer, and you can start making your own neat graphs and monitor your progress better!

@Luthie, you cannot copy it directly into your post, you need to link to it from a photo host such as Photobucket or Tinypic; there are some others, but I'm not sure of the names.. these two are free. I use Tinypic, so these directions are for it, the others are probably quite similar.
To attach your document:
1. save it as a jpg on your computer (use snipping tool or a screenshot)
2. Upload the image and save it
3. follow the steps to: 1.image, 2.resize in dropdown box to Message Board
4. copy the code for Message Board to Word or other word processor
5 Create your post here at cpaptalk.com, pasting the code in where you want it.
Resizing for Message Board use is important because otherwise your complete image might not show up.
