If someone wants to PM you (with a surprise) but you don't accept PMs, what do we do?

Someone has to explain how to do it step by step. He doesn't know how.

Like Squid13....I have also received PMs from Avi....long time ago when he wanted something from me.
He has his turned off for a reason. He doesn't want any PMs unless he wants something I guess.

He said on the forum a few months back that he tried to enable PMs, but he wasn't sure he had done so.

There's plenty reasons to not regularly use PM's that I've seen expressed on here through the years. This list is paraphrased, but here goes...
- In an open forum there is endless potential for who can benefit from the discussion and insights with a greater return on time invested.
- Open discussion allows for accountability, contradiction, and if need be, censure. Some don't want the responsibility of private discussions.
- In times of contention, the public attacks can overflow to private.
- In open forum, one can choose to not join in the discussion without feeling pressured. Once someone sends a PM it feels rude to not reply.
- Some choose an open forum because it keeps things more impersonal and gives the user more control of their level of interaction.
- Some feel a degree of vulnerability with any online use and choose not to put themselves in a position of being a target of the unscrupulous.

On the flip side, PM's work well when the topic is likely not of public interest, when taking care of business, or when people have developed an online relationship and don't want to publicize their chit-chat or personal conversation. Twice over the years I've PM'd people I'd hoped to get some expertise from. Those two forum members politely answered me but redirected me to the thread that had prompted me to PM, where they had answered in detail. However, those same members, on occasions that were appropriate, shared multiple PM's with me. Choosing to limit use of the PM feature to an as-needed basis can be a valid and wise decision. I wouldn't read anything negative into it.

Julie, you are most likely on his "FOE" list, just like us other gals, girls, ladies, the fairer sex....... and he won't receive your pm He doesn't think that we have anything "important" to say, we just ruffle his feathers with our prattle .
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Reply,

Why not post it here? The problem is that notices for those PMs are emailed to my inbox and clutter it.

See here the trash that I get in my emails:

For example, I can't stop this one:

In today's lesson on alternative sleep apnea treatments I'm
going to tell you about a treatment that sounds crazy at first -
but has been proven in scientific studies to cure sleep apnea.

The treatment is...singing therapy.

How Singing Exercises Cure Sleep Apnea (with sample exercise)

Wait! I know what you're thinking: what kind of crazy treatment is
singing therapy?

I just put up a new video that covers all you need to know to learn more about this intriguing treatment:
• Exactly how singing therapy cures sleep apnea (and snoring!)
• Proof that this therapy works (from a scientific study in England)
• Results other sleep apnea sufferers have had
• A sample singing exercise you can try right now!

This is a truly innovative sleep apnea treatment - a treatment that's easy to do, has no side effects, and is even fun to do.

I highly recommend you take 5 minutes and watch this informative video right now. It could change your life! Here's the link:

That's it for today's lesson. Watch your inbox tomorrow, when I'll be revealing
another proven sleep apnea cure - that doesn't involve CPAP!

Are you talking about your personal private email address "in box"?
A person can turn off the PM notification system for cpaptalk forum private messages so that you won't get the clutter from all the PMs you might get going to your personal email address to tell you that someone sent you a PM.
User Control Panel
Board Preferences
Edit Global settings
scroll down till you see "Notify me of new PM messages" and change the default from "yes" to "no" and you won't get emails to your personal email address tell you that you have a private message at cpaptalk forum.

The example you posted above from Marc McDonald has nothing to do with cpaptalk or the PM function here. You got that message because you subscribed to something somewhere and you need to unsubscribe there and not complain about it here. You didn't get that email to your private email address because you allowed PMs here.
The "unsubscribe" thing is always in teeny tiny print and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Pugsy... from what I've heard over the years, when you hit the unsubscribe thingie it lets the sender know that you are receiving the email. The best thing to do is just delete it.

Tis true for unsolicited real spam email but for stuff like this from Marc McDonald which is obviously a newsletter of some kind...I suspect Avi signed up somehow for it. I got/get similar stuff from Dr Park.

Now when hubby accidentally gave out our email address because he thought he had won a $1,000 Walmart gift card...yep, he did that but won't ever do it again... and I was getting 100 plus spam emails an hour...I did ignore most of those and eventually they quit but when we sign up for something or order something then we can safely unsubscribe. They quit sooner when I unsubscribed though.
I bought something from cooking.com a while back and I was getting all sorts of crap emails...I did get them stopped by doing the unsubscribe thing and making some selections on the manage what emails I want to get from them. I have had to do the unsubscribe thing on occasion just to reduce the crap emails coming from places that I did either order something or subscribed by accident.

If I wanted to post it here I would have... but never mind, it wasn't important, I'm certainly not trying to sell you anything and can't imagine now why I thought I had anything to say to such a rude person.
