Home Pulse Oximetry Results!

Post by The Latinist » Mon Jun 30, 2014 2:21 pm

So I got the results of my overnight home pulse oximetry study. The study was done 6/25/14 with a VirtuOx-branded CMS-50i wrist pulse oximeter. The results after 9:04 of sleep:

Avg. satO2: 94.7%
Low. satO2: 81%
Time below 89%: 1.8 minutes out of 544 (0.3%)

This compares to my untreated results from the first half of my 4/23/14 split study:

Avg. satO2: 79%
Low. satO2: 60%
Total time below 89%: 104 minutes out of 170 (61.2%)

This is what my results looked like that night (typical, although usually the OA's are higher than the CAA's:

So it seems that despite my ongoing AHI issues, my therapy is working. That does not mean that my sleep is not disturbed by my remaining events, and I'd like to get my AHI down, but it looks like CPAP is definitely controlling my desaturation issues.

if you paid more than 90$ for that test, then next time, just order a cms50i from alibaba.com, and run a test any time you like, with immediate results!

I paid nothing for the test, which my doctor ordered and Anthem paid for. But I am, indeed, very tempted to order a CMS-50i at some point. After all, AHI is not really what we're worried about, is it? It's just a poor proxy. The ability to monitor my O2 periodically would put my mind at ease.

the software that comes with the 50i is probably what they used to create the report you got.

That is a wonderful improvement.

However, in an ideal world you would spend 0 time below 90%...

This is not an ideal world, however. Nor do I doubt that my satO2 frequently falls below 90% when I'm awake (indeed, my Awake Average satO2 during my sleep study was 90%). I have no doubt that I now have better oxygenation at night than during the day.
