Hello all. Longtime denier of the apnea I was diagnosed with but really can't anymore. I have one, in my profile below but it is one that collects no real data just hours. Coming to this site and reading a bit about the machines, thanks for the info and links by the way, really is awesome.
Do people find this works better for them, the auto I mean, I think I understand how it works but maybe someone who is using it could summarize a bit for me, I would appreciate it. I am trying to decide if I should go with auto or just regular I guess, I definitley want one that can do teh data that I see in some of these threads about it, think it would help a lot.
And what is the advantage of a heated hose, does it last longer because of the condensation control or feel better?
Thanks in advance.

Good discussion of heated hoses here: viewtopic/t98808/Is-the-only-reason-to- ... inout.html
If you're just starting, you might want to get an autopap machine - prices very similar as CPAP, but more flexible (in case you need it). I have an autopap machine, but have it set to cpap mode. If, in the future, I need autopap settings, they are available to me. Getting a data capable machine is VERY important.

Re: Questions on auto machines
Get an auto if you can. The auto can be set to be a manual CPAP if auto doesn't work for you. If you start with a manual, you're stuck with a manual.
However, the most important thing is to get a fully data capable CPAP. Read the links in my signature line for more info.
Many people tend to think an APAP can only be set to do everything auto, but the best way to use them is to set the machine to a narrower pressure range. If you start at too low of a pressure, you have to suffer from apnea for a while for the machine to detect the apneas and adjust the pressure up. It's better to start at a pressure that stops most of your apnea, then look at how the therapy works and fine tune from there if necessary.
Most of the problems that some people have with auto machines can be tamed by proper adjustments. You can basically turn down the level of auto it uses, all the way down to a manual CPAP.

Re: Questions on auto machines
Thank you for the replies and info. I am trying to lose weight as well, already have lost a few pounds but know it will be easier with CPAP working for me but since I am really overweight I wm thinking that even a few pounds might change what pressure I would need so thats why I was curious about the auto.
So if i understand correctly, it starts out at a pressure and then begins to adjust to how you are sleeping? CAn anyone recommend a few good models and for that matter maybe a few good models of just cpap but with data capability.
Thanks again.
