Many snores after changing hoses. What to do?

Post by jannicatt » Wed Jun 25, 2014 2:55 pm

My husband has been getting great scores of below 5 and then he wanted to remove the humidifier and had to change to the larger hose. Over night he went from one vibratory snore 2 to thirty. He uses the System One 760P, Bilevel set at 9-13. We have followed suggestions I have read in the forum and have tweaked his settings to doing great for him. Any suggestions would really be appreciated. I would post his report but I am not too computer literate! Thanks.

What makes you think it's the hose and not the lack of humidifier?

And are you sure it's really snoring and not some other noise the machine is picking up?

I didn't realize there was a setting. I will check that out. thanks. I didn't think it was the humidifier as he doesn't use it consistently and the snores weren't affected.

I don't think it is any thing else the machine is picking up as things are the same as usual and this had never happened before. But I will double check that out. thanks

It just shows tubing type 22 or 15. What does that mean? this tube is much longer than that??? It is the standard gray hose.

that's the diameter, in millimeters.

you said he had to change to the 'larger' hose... did you change the tube setting to match?

Would that mean I set this to 22?

If, by larger, you meant bigger around, then yes you should change the hose setting from 15 to 22.

Which hose were you originally using?
If it was the heated hose (has a black end where it connects to the humidifier) that hose is a 15 mm hose. The machine auto detects that hose and makes the hose diameter choice for you.
If it was just the white performance hose that likely came with the machine...that hose is 22 mm and the machine should have already been set for it but it is a manual setting.
There is a 15 mm slimline white non heated hose but it's unlikely that was what you had originally....it's a special order item.

Gray standard hoses (no matter what the length) all are 22 mm diameter hoses as far as I know.

Yes, it was the heated hose and he doesn't want even the humidifier so we put that standard hose on yesterday. I will change the setting to 22 then. Is it logical that this would have caused the increased snores? Thanks so much!

I don't know. Unless the incorrect hose diameter impacted therapy negatively and allowed some partial collapses of the airway to materialize I don't see it being a primary cause and that's assuming the snores were the real deal and not some sort of hose noise. The heated hose is lighter and more flexible and I am wondering if the gray hose itself is "noisier" which the machine might pick up the vibrations or hose movement as snores.

See what happens after tonight and you know for sure the hose diameter choice is correct.

Now that is a thought! He put the now "smaller" machine in the open drawer and the hose could have rubbed the edge and made noises. Tonight we will take it out and put it back on top and be sure of the setting. Thank you, thank you.
