Has anyone tried the SleepIQ by Sleepnumber?

Post by fmj13 » Sun Jun 22, 2014 6:50 pm

I am planning to look at a local store, but I was wondering if anyone has tried it. As someone who is constantly looking at sleep technology, I am interested, but wonder how effective and expensive it is. I did really like a sleepnumber bed I tried in a store and thought about getting one of their pillows (but did not buy one).

Just to be clear, I have no financial interest, other than possibly buying one myself.

I have not tried SleepNumber, but I'm planning to get one sometime soon. My cousin has one and loves it; when I asked her what prompted her to get one, she said that her son's fiancé has one, and she slept in it when she went to visit. She woke up in the morning not aching all over like she usually does. So, she bought one for herself and her arthritis doesn't bother her nearly as much now. When I went to the SleepNumber store to discuss prices, etc. I learned that just like with regular mattresses and box springs, you don't have to buy the whole thing. if all you want is the mattress with the remotes that's all you have to buy, and the price you pay will go down accordingly. He priced some mattresses out for me, and they were not a lot more expensive than other mattresses, depending on what thickness you buy, etc.

My mother was put on an inflatable bed in the hospital, and HATED it!

My wife and I purchased a dual-chamber SleepNumber bed when we married almost six years ago. I consider it one of our best purchases ever. She likes her mattress soft and I like mine firm. I can adjust my bed to changing back problems…I even was able to adjust it to minimize pain when I broke my tailbone. My wife was able to adjust her bed throughout her two pregnancies to at least minimize her discomfort. I wouldn't want to sleep on anything else.

I believe the SleepIQ mentioned by the OP has a sleep tracking feature,
which the company hints that they will put into more future models.
The technology is not so much like Zeo as a fitbit or similar trackers.

That's interesting. I'm not sure how much I'd trust such sleep trackers without peer-reviewed studies comparing its results to PSG.

What is PSG?

PSG = polysomnogram. That's what the sleep test is, in medical terminology.

Sorry. Didn't mean to get jargon-y.

I had this question myself a week ago, but not sure I received any replies.
I have GERD, bad back and of course apnea. I was almost going to buy an adjustable sleep number bed (a huge investment around $4000 for a queen) and on the Sleep Number website itself, there are so many negative reviews that it scared me into buying one. I am even surprised that they don't delete the negative reviews. Of course, there are nice positive ones too. But it scared me into not buying one when I read that many customers (not some) said their back was worse on the Sleep Number Bed than before. So I saved my money and lifted my bed up with blocks 6 inches for the GERD. I am not sure if this is helping me, but with those negative reviews, it really scared me into buying one.
