Airfit f10

Post by Sclark08 » Sun Jun 15, 2014 12:54 pm

I went to pick up my new mask Thursday Airfit 10 FF. I got a medium which is what all of my masks have always been.
When I tried it that night it kept sliding up my chin. Went back to DME next day picked up larger headgear. Still had the same problem.
I think I'm going to take it back Monday and just get a new cushion for my Ultra Mirage. The headgear is still good. I don't like the forehead support but if I cushion it with gauze pad it's perfect.
And the price they charge Medicare almost $300. I think is ridiculous. I felt guilty carrying it out. $75 for new cushion much better. I just don't understand these high prices for this stuff.

I compared the cushions of both masks almost an inch difference and both are listed on pkg as Medium?

It's a different mask, probably slightly different shape so fits differently. Lots of sizes and shapes to fit the many different sizes and shapes of our faces. You'd think that since they are both made by Resmed they would use the same size for all their medium masks, but it's kind of like shoes. I can try on 4 different shoes of my size from the same maker, and only one pair fits comfortably.

Usually (not always) the amount you see charged is not what Medicare (or private insurance) pays. The charge is $300, Medicare may allow $120 & that is what they pay. The rest of the bill is 'written off' because they cannot charge you the difference if they 'accept assignment' meaning they take Medicare. The new system of 'approved DME's' within the bidding system has a set amount for each item, Medicare will pay the DME that amount and that's it. Sounds very hard to understand & the rules keep changing, but the DME knows when you walk out the door with that mask how much they will get & it isn't $300. You should get a EOB from Medicare that will show the allowable amount & what they actually paid. This is interesting reading.

Also, don't feel guilty if you actually need & will use the item, you paid all your working life for Medicare & you still probably pay monthly out of your Social Security check. Now the people who don't need the items and sell them parted out on ebay, they should feel guilty. I had a DME that for several years sent me stuff I kept telling them I had enough & didn't need any more. Now that problem is fixed, under the new rules, a DME cannot just 'send' you stuff, you have to request it. DME's may call to see if you 'need' stuff & try to get you to take it (I've had that already this year, told them no), but they cannot just 'send' like they used too. I have a closet full of hoses (plain) that I'll never use, so if you need hoses (anybody - plain 6' hoses) let me know, don't buy any, I have a bunch.

If you don't want to get all the paper, set up an online account with mymedicare.gov to review your EOB's
