And the answer is: because he read the data off the damned LCD!

In the end I got out SleepyHead and started showing him the full data on my computer because I was sick of pretending that I didn't know more about my therapy than he did. Finally, I told him what changes I wanted to make and he entered them into the machine (as though I can't). He wants me to do a home SpO2 study, which I'm fine with anyway. And if things don't improve to my satisfaction he said he'd order a full night titration study. Ultimately, though, I'm pretty much done with letting him determine my therapy.

At least he looked.

For my first follow up (and come to think of it the last) visit after starting cpap therapy I was told to bring my machine.
I asked why and did it matter that I bought my machine privately and insurance wasn't involved...."oh, if insurance isn't involved we don't need to see the machine or anything...that was just for insurance compliance purposes"
They couldn't care less about the data at all.
I did go fully armed with print outs from Encore (all we had available back 5 years ago) and showed what I had done and got the formal blessing to continue to do my own thing since I seemed to be well educated on the ins and outs.

My doctor asked me to bring the unit, too. Turned out that the card reader on her computer was broken.

She just looked at the stats on the unit and logged it into her computer system. Apparently my insurance provider insists on having the data to confirm that I still have the unit.

I would be concerned if my doctor couldn't afford a $10 SD card reader.

Ah, but that's what the lovely GSM modem on the back of my S9 is for.

I have a little "tattoo" on it so I know it's mine. You can use almost anything to mark it with... put it in an unobtrusive place... like the bottom where mine is, or you could even use your humidity knob to mark the setting you usually like it at.
Library Lady:

Couldn't you just record the machine's serial number or do you still recommend placing some markings somewhere on the machine? I would assume that each machine has a different serial number or is that not the case?

I could record the serial number, but due to vision problems, it's easier for me to see my "tattoo"...

Braille works well for marking things.
Kind of like code-talking.
