Change in Amount of Sleep Needed

Post by Big Storm » Sat Jun 07, 2014 5:19 am

I'm about a month into my treatment, and after discovering Pad a Cheek liners to control the air leaks for my mask, things are going great. An added bonus, and one I did not anticipate, is the elimination of heartburn during the night. I was frequent consumer of Zantac and I've been able to discontinue usage. Feels great!

Here's my question....after you settled into CPAP treatment, how big was the change in terms of the amount of sleep you need? Pre-treatment, I always thought I needed 9 hours of sleep per night. Typically, I would go to bed at 9:30 pm and (struggle to) wake up at 6:30 am. Of course, that was poor, interrupted sleep. Now, I find that if I go to bed at the same time, I'm bouncing out of bed at 4:30 am. In fact, I have not been able to stay in bed past 5 am. In the new world, it seems I need 7 hours....now, I just need to take advantage of my new found time in the morning!

Just curious if you noticed the same thing when you were starting treatment. Thanks in advance and have a good day!

I'm a little over 6 months into my CPAP usage. I noticed the same change in sleep required from the 1st night. In fact, I was slightly worse, with 10-10.5 hrs per night "sleeping" & needed an alarm clock to wake me, followed by needing an hour to fully wake up. Now it's 7 hrs, no need for an alarm clock.

Change in Amount of Sleep Needed

My sleep needs have definitely decreased. I have been on CPAP for 5 weeks now. I used to be ready for bed by 9:00-9:30 pm and sleep until 7-8am and wake sleepy.

Now 5 weeks in, I am not feeling the need to go to bed until 10:30-11pm and am wide awake by 6am for the past week. So I just get up around 6, enjoy watching some Fox News in peace until the kids wake about 7-8 am. (I have 7 at home from 14years old down to 18 months old.)

I'm around a month in and also am moving towards 7 hrs per night.

When I wake up I immediately reach for the button to check my nightly stats and it's pretty much always 7.x even on my days off.

Unfortunately my average ahi moved from 0.x to 1.x but that's another story.
