Happy Birthday BB, take care of yourself -- and I think when you're better you should get a birthday re-do.

That sounds like a fabulous idea!

Happy Birthday, BB. I'm sorry you're spending it in the hospital. That just isn't fair!!! Feel better soon.

Happy Birthday - tell them you need a hospital birthday cake (no fat, no sugar, no salt but healthy).

Happy Birthday, BB!

(I'd bake you a Mockalate Cake, but I'd be afraid it would be stale by the time it got to you!)

Thank you, CF! I feel like I'm getting there; could breathe easily and without pain two days ago (for the first time in well over a week). It's a great relief to just be able to breathe freely again (not as deeply as I'd like yet, but much better).

I like that idea a lot. But truth be told, I really had a great bday here in the hospital. An old friend sent beautiful flowers from Atlanta, a newer friend sent a teddy and balloons, the nutrition department sent me a slice of cheesecake for dessert with my lunch yesterday which had "Happy Birthday" written around the edge of the plate in the fruit topping, and the nursing staff here surprised me in the afternoon with a colorful birthday hat with plush candles on it, a package of emery boards (my nails are longer than I usually keep them, and there's no way to clip them here), and a Snickers bar. Hugs and birthday wishes from them, and a song from the lady who delivered my bday dinner (and she has a great voice!). All things considered, my bday spent in the hospital was a lot of fun.

Thanks, Maddie. Maybe not fair, but it turned out to be really good.

Thanks, robysue. I may be released tomorrow (which is a big YAY, since I miss my bed and pillow in a big way). The hospital is no place to be if you need to get any rest. LOL "Wake up and take this sleeping pill."

Hi, jencat, and thanks. I'm not on a restricted diet, and they sent me a slice of cheesecake (probably my favorite dessert ever, and not one I indulge in very often) yesterday. The hell with healthy on your birthday!

Hehe. I guess they heard you before I did. We're on the same page, Froggy.

Thanks, Kira. I have no idea what a Mockalate Cake is (have heard of it, I think, via Patti LaBelle), but thanks very much for even offering to send one. I bet I'd love it (maybe even more than cheesecake)! You and Harry have one for me, and let me live vicariously.

Thanks, Karen. You're very sweet, as always.

~~~~~~
I'm hoping to go home tomorrow, but the steroids they're treating me with are fiddling with my white blood cell count; it keeps jumping, instead of lessening thanks to the antibiotics I'm being given. I expect to see the doc in an hour or two, and we'll see what he says then. At least the staff is very nice here, and the food operation is on a par with a hotel situation. I feel like I'm getting very good care here. Could be a lot worse, I guess.
I feel pretty good at this point, but the numbers are troubling. Thankfully, my roommate was released last night, so I now have the room to myself. Made it quite a bit cooler, don't have to worry about disturbing anyone else via tv noise or the over-the-bed light, don't have to add her own meds disruptions to the activity in the room, etc. I should be able to rest a bit more now. (At least, I hope that's the case.) But I still want to be home ASAP. I've never been away from my pets for this long before, and my neighbor reports that the dog's fine, but he doesn't want to go for walks; goes out, does his thing, and he's right back inside the house again. He's also not eating as much as usual. He's apparently out-of-sorts like I am, and he's doing the guarding thing and not much more. Can't wait to see him and reassure him that everything's okay and Mom isn't just "gone" from home indefinitely... Of course, I miss the cats like crazy, too, but I'm expecting the cold paw from them for a few days after I return. To the dog, I'm Mom; to the cats, I'm the person who feeds them and pets them when they want it. I'm the "staff." LOL
Thanks, everyone, for the good wishes. Hope to be back around here more often soon.
