Be assertive, or they will think you are a sheep.

KCDC wrote:Hello all,
Here's an update. This nuerologist of mine is really cryptic. I yet got another e-mail with one sentence saying "My nurse will order the device for you". ????? WTF?
So I wrote back,
"Hi Dr. Potolicchio,
Thank you. I'll be in touch with Andrea. I'm doing some research about CPAP/APAP machines and checking to see what my insurance will cover.
I think what's on my mind right now is a ResMed S9 Autoset (#36005) + S9 Series H5i Heated Humidifier with Climate Control and then get fitted with the correct mask at the DME.
Do you know which DME is the best to use? I have a list here. So, should I call Andrea to find out?
Thank you"
That should hopefully catch their attention that I know what the hell I want..... even though I don't.... LOL.
what do you all think?
I would be very clear that they are NOT to order anything before 1st discussing it with you. Decide on a machine NOW. Also let them know that if he cannot or will not write the Rx for the specific machine you desire, you are NOT interested in anything else. Once he writes the Rx to his liking & not yours, it becomes much more difficult to change his mind (not impossible, but more difficult).
I would buy another ResMed S9 AutoSet in a heartbeat (I already have 2) except that I think that an S10 or equivalent may be out soon. No one knows for sure if or when that may happen - but it is something to consider. The later Respironics models have not been out as long. Remember, insurance (including Medicare) generally will NOT replace a machine for at least 5 years, longer if it is running well, so you will have that machine for at least that long.
