I have sleep apnea myself, but I m writing about my adult son who just finished his initial sleep studies to determine if he had sleep apnea.
The report is a bit different than what I have seen, but there are several things that caught my eye.
He was diagnosed with sleep apnea, and was told to come back for a titration study. He had 360.5 sleep time, and no REM sleep and 2 minutes N3. Looks like Arousal Index was 46.5. But on front it says AHI 5.0 and RDI 23.2. Not sure how all that correlates.
His heart rate while sleeping went to a high of 185. He has had that high of a heart rate while awake, but is on medication which we thought was controlling that.
Tech Summary - Displayed apnea, frequent RERA's;... sleep architecture was abnormal. Study indicated apnea, freq RERA's, loud snores.
I'd appreciate any input!
Sleep study quesitons
Re: Sleep study quesitons
Now I am no expert and since real experts have not replied yet I will give you my view. You made no mention what his Oxygen level was at the study.
So going by what information you gave....
Since he is snoring that tells me there is air flow limitation. Snoring tells me the airway is not completely open. Maybe his oxygen level dropped which would explain his arousal's.
and rapid heart beat could be brain saying not enough oxygen.
Just my view and I am sure the real experts will pipe in soon...
I wish you and your son well.

Re: Sleep study quesitons
Thanks for reply! His lowest oxygen level was 87. It also mentions 2 "Rel Desats" - whatever that is.
Re: Sleep study quesitons
Absolute desaturation is a drop below a predefined threshold, often 90%, and relative desaturation is a drop from the baseline value using a pre-defined value, usually 3-4% when talking about sleep. A relative desaturation will/should also have a minimum duration.jshuler43 wrote:It also mentions 2 "Rel Desats" - whatever that is.
