Doctor told me to be careful

of this site. She said it is corporate owned and to be careful. Yeah, like I don't research everything on my own as well!

Can I just say that I hate politics in the healthcare field?!

Now the hunt to find the best service to get a machine.

yes this forum is "owned" by a company that sells cpap products via the internet. I don't see how that is something that is bad. Someone has to pay the bills for maintaining a forum like this and it sure is nice not to have advertisements after every couple of posts in a thread or having someone with a heavy hand moderate the forum. Johnny prefers to treat us like adults and that's kinda nice.

CPAP.com doesn't restrict us in anyway from mentioning the other online cpap retailers or providing links to anything that we want to link to like other cpap forums do.

They also don't restrict us from talking about changing stuff on our machines and that is usually what gets the medical community's knickers all balled up.

If you want to see ads, you can click on the "CPAP product news" at the top of the page, or click on anyone's equipment at the bottom of a post. This is useful when comparing prices (lay down the chalupa first!)
For comparisons of machines, with info your DME may not want you to see, search for maskarrayed.wordpress.com.
This blog is written by a long-time and trusted member here.
Your doc may be afraid of you following a fad which will not help, and could harm you.
Alternative treatments have even been discussed here, but we are cpap users.
AFAIK, no one is ever paid here except the occasional spammer, which we try to eliminate.

Indeed. The DME's technician looked very confused when I gave her details of my leak rates and explained that increased leaks often corresponded to increases in pressures and seemed to result in unclassifiable apneas. She looked like she was almost going to ask how I knew that, but then thought better of it. She just started bringing out new masks for me to try.

As opposed to the yahoo groups that are free but corporate run and it takes 48 hours to get an edited version of your post up.

I can hardly wait to see my new sleep doctor's reaction next week when I start speaking knowledgeably about pressures, leaks, and masks. LOL!

Beats me. Diabetics are encouraged to be self aware and we are treated like ugly step children. A lot more damage can be done by the wrong insulin dose than a little air from a cpap machine.
Yeah there are some contraindications for cpap use but I would assume someone who gets a RX from a doctor for a cpap machine wouldn't be having those contraindications or they wouldn't be getting the RX in the first place.

Some docs like to play God. Some DMEs seem to like to foster the God thing.

My sleep doctor's PA...only warned to not "obsess" over the data that she knew I had access to. She felt like worrying over minor variations in the data caused undue stress on some people who strive to achieve "perfection" based on numbers alone.. like the AHI 0.0 thing.

Yes, "corporate-owned" in that the family that owns CPAP.com incorporated their business. U.S. Expediters/CPAP.com is not some international mega-corporation. It's family-run with a handful of employees.

Which is not bad advice. I know we're a little numbers-obsessed here, but it's a good idea to keep some perspective.

On the other hand, the big national companies have been discussed here.
And you can read about some of their legal problems all over the net.

Thank you CPAP.com for hosting the forum.
Thank you CPAP.com for not participating in the forum.
Thank you CPAP.com for not censoring the forum.

The complete lack of shills in here is a really nice feature.

I'd be more worried about my doctor and his corp, and DMP relationship. Jim
