New to CPAP. Have just purchased a System One REMStar 60 Series Pro. I have no idea what I'm doing. I find the manuals pretty useless. I'm wondering about the difference between the standard CPAP setting and the C-Flex setting. Also, can I get data about my sleep/breathing patterns from the data card, if so, how?
Thanks very much.

CFlex is just the form of exhale relief. Your option as to whether you want to use it or not and if you use it the setting choice is yours...use whichever feels best is usually what I tell people.

Finally...yes it is a full data machine with primary function being cpap mode but there is also a limited trial of apap mode available.
You can use SleepyHead software ...or Encore software. Send me a private message if you want Encore and please include the operating system on your computer as it affects which version I would recommend.

Hi Stosh - I was in your position a couple months ago... same machine. There's a lot of stuff to learn but you can get the basics really quick.
Essentially you have:
1. Pressure
2. Humidity
3. C-flex
If you've got those set then you're good to go and you can pick up the rest little by little.

Re: New user PR System One REMStar 60 Series Pro CPAP Machine
Stosh...did you get the heated hose with it or the regular white hose?
If unsure...the heated hose has a black end on it where it attaches to the humidifier.
The heated hose is considered an option so not everyone gets one right off the bat unless the supplier is thinking ahead.
If you have the heated hose you have additional options with the humidifier that aren't available with the standard hose.
Not the end of the world if you don't have the heated hose though...just good to know if you start getting condensation in the mask or hose that there is a potential easy remedy.

Thanks very much for your replies. I don't think I have the heated hose.
I'm just not sure where to start. (I did not have a sleep study, which probably accounts for much of the ignorance.) The machine feels comfortable and I can tell already after a few days that it is having a beneficial effect.
But I would feel better if I knew what I was doing. For example, when I push the Therapy button, I see a reading of 12.0 cm H20, ramps up from 4, again feels fine, seems to be working.
* I don't know the difference between C-Plex or CPlex +, or if it really makes a difference.
* I'm not sure what the A-trial is, how it works, or if I should use it.
* On INFO, what does "therapy hours" mean?
Thank you.

C-Flex and C-Flex+ are both comfort settings and provide pressure relief. There are subtle differences between the two (for example, whether the timing of the relief) and whether you use one or the other, or neither, is just a matter of personal preference. It might or might not make a difference to your comfort--if your treatment is more comfortable you are more likely to stick with it.Stosh wrote:

A-trial will let your machine run in APAP mode not CPAP mode for a time. APAP will vary the pressure delivered to you within specified parameters that you specify in reaction to how the machine senses your breathing--if you have reduced airflow, hypopneas or obstructive apneas it will increase pressure as needed up to the specified limit. CPAP just delivers a specified pressure. You can use an APAP trial to kind of check/diagnostic to see whether the fixed CPAP pressure is accurate.
"Therapy hours" are the number of hours that you have used the machine for therapy. This number can be reset when the machine is passed on to a new person. ("Machine hours" is the total number of hours that the machine has been running, and cannot be reset.)
