Disassemble Quattro FX

Post by MaryGordon » Tue May 27, 2014 1:56 am

I am unable to get the elbow out of the frame for cleaning. I'm hesitant to just use brute force in case I break the plastic. Does anyone have any tips please?

Put it in the fridge - it'll shrink down and possibly let you separate them.

Thank you both, Sclark08 and Julie. Youtube is amazing for all things mask related! My problem however is that I just can't do it! I'll try the fridge!
thanks a lot.

I have the same problem (with 2 different masks), and I'm afraid that I will break the mask as well. I just take as much of it apart as I can and wash as usual. The mask and elbow are the only 2 parts that don't want to come apart, so I figure that it's O.K.

I have this mask and also haven't seen a reason so far to take the elbow off for cleaning, and also don't want to force it. I just take apart everything else. If you feel there is any gunk in there beyond what a good soaking will help, a Q tip could be another option before taking it completely apart (also good for the lip where the cushion goes into). Best wishes.

hold the mask in one hand. with the other hand grab the elbow. just lift it up away from or push it down toward the mask like a pump handle and it will come loose. it snaps right back in. i know it seems scary the first time. it works.

For joints that do not come apart, it is sometimes possible to work dental floss through the area to clean it.

I've found it pops out easier if you rotate the elbow 90 degrees towards towards the point where your ears would be. It's designed to be removed that way. NOTE, you can confirm this by feeling around under the lip of the mask orifice and you will find two tabs. So, to get started, hold the mask with the elbow facing you and the bottom of the cushion pointed towards your lap. Next, rotate the elbow exactly to either 9 o'clock or 3 o'clock position. Grab the very end of the elbow and use that little bit of leverage to pop out the piece. It takes a good tug but gets a bit easier every time you do it. The acrylic plastic on both pieces is very strong and thick - you won't break it. Getting it back in is a bit of a challenge, however you basically do it the same way in reverse, except you have to use a bunch of force and press the elbow straight down. Hope that makes sense.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Thank you all so much for your help!
The long and the short of it seems to be that even with the clearest instructions I just can't do it! I am thinking that there really probably isn't too much need to get the elbow out for cleaning ... and I will just leave it in and hope for the best!

thanks y'all so much!

All you need to do is read the instructions... Honestly its very simple. Simply grab the elbow and bend outward at an angle and it comes out. Like breaking a wishbone (make a wish!) To reinstall you simply push it straight inward and it pops back in. The same steps apply to removing the elbow on the standard Quattro. The new Quattro Air and other newer models -- NO! They do NOT disassemble. Only the older models like the QFX and Std. Quattro.

Want to see someone do it, watch Lank Lefty's review of the mask (and others) on youtube.
