I have been using a BIPAP machine for the last couple of months, instead of APAP. My sleep doc wanted to see my readings, so I took my download card over to the DME to send him the results. They gave me another card, and I was lax about checking the results. Imagine my surprise tonight when I downloaded the results since then, and had an AHI of 300! Not only that, but the machine (according to Sleepyhead) is now set to CFlex x2 instead of Bilevel. The only thing I can think of is that the card I was given had other program instructions on it and it reprogrammed my machine.
Sheesh! I'm going back to my APAP machine tonight. Good thing I'm seeing the sleep doc tomorrow. It also explains why I've actually awoken and had trouble going back to sleep several times in the past few weeks.
From now on I will be downloading my data daily.
Has anyone else ever had this sort of thing happen?
Debbie
Something VERY weird and scary!
Re: Something VERY weird and scary!
Are you getting this off the Summary page in SleepyHead? There are some bizarre problems that pop up in the Summary page stuff in SleepyHead for some folksneedzzzzs wrote:I have been using a BIPAP machine for the last couple of months, instead of APAP. Before panicking you should check the clinical settings and the LCD data on your BiPAP. See if it is the same as SH reports or see if the machine says it is set to BiPap mode. My guess is that the machine is set correctly and that you've just run into a SleepyHead glitch. The only thing I can think of is that the card I was given had other program instructions on it and it reprogrammed my machine.

Re: Something VERY weird and scary!
Which SleepyHead version?
Which model number BiPap?
As Robysue has said...just go into the clinical setup menu to see what it is set at.
There is a cpap mode available on all the BiPaps and CFlex would be something a person would see in CPAP mode.
There's also a bug on the statistics page of SleepyHead and the bug is worse if using an older version and a 60 series machine.
The bug affects AHI numbers (grossly elevated AHI) and sometimes SleepyHead doesn't know which Flex option is being used.
Always best to confirm by looking on the machine itself.

Re: Something VERY weird and scary!
Yes, this was from the Summary page in SleepyHead. What is even weirder is that where the detailed hourly graphs would have been, I got that big floating "No Data" icon.
It makes me feel a lot better that this might be a SleepyHead glitch. However, in looking at the info available on the LCD, I cannot see a lot of detail. I think the setting is the range I was prescribed, and where it says BIPAP, the number 2 is to the right of it. When they first gave me the machine, it showed a daily AHI, but when they switched it over to BIPAP, that setting was suppressed (believe me, I looked at every setting in detail).
I'll let you know later today after I see the sleep doc what they find on the card.
Thanks,
Debbie

Probably seeing BiFlex at 2 and not BiPap at 2. There is no "BiPap 2" setting except BiFlex at 2 that I can think of.needzzzzs wrote: However, in looking at the info available on the LCD, I cannot see a lot of detail. You aren't in the clinical setup menu if that is all you are seeing.. They can't suppress anything if you go into the clinical setup menu.
Now there is the "show AHI" setting available in the clinical menu that turns on or off the AHI and leak data.
I suspect you simply weren't in the clinical setup menu. Missed a step in the sequence for getting to the setup menu maybe?

Again...exactly which model machine (3 digit model number off the bottom of the machine) and which SleepyHead version?
If you are getting the "no data" thing I suspect the model machine is not compatible with the SleepyHead version you are using.

Re: Something VERY weird and scary!
You're right, I wasn't in the clinical menu. Will take a look later.
So, sleep doc says I need an ASV machine. The majority of my apneas are centrals. Insurance wouldn't let him go straight from APAP to ASV..we had to try the BIPAP first. And, I need to have ANOTHER titration study, this time with the ASV machine. What a giant pain in the posterior!
I'm scheduled for the ASV titration on June 6. It'll probably be a couple of weeks after that before I get full approval for an ASV machine. Meanwhile, stay with the BIPAP machine.
Thanks for help with the Sleepyhead bug problem, Pugsy and RobySue. My doc says the highest AHI he's ever seen was 146. Thus 300 and up just can't happen, apparently.
I'm going to try Encore software again, thanks to Pugsy.
Stay tuned!
