Best tape to use on skin

Post by Issac » Wed Jun 07, 2006 7:17 am

I have taken to taping my skin and mask at the bridge of my nose. It works well to stop little leaks into my eyes but is gooey in the morning because of the moisture. Currently, electrical tape. Is there a wide medical tape that some of you use and if permitted, the brand name.
I live with my son who also has this problem and he will be obtaining something called mole skin that he discovered on these helpful websites. Now, I have a sliver of a car shammy between the cushion and my nose under the tape. My pressure is 20 and I have simple CPAP so it is set to the highest level, I think 18, possibly 20. That is why everything wants to blow off my face. When I tried nasal masks, aire started blowing out of my lips at night and the noise from the little leaks wakes me up. Even now. When I spring a leak, and I will on any mask, it is very noisy and wakes my up. I already use a fan by my head to drown out the noise from my mask.

..20 cu/H2O!! Wow, that's high. May I suggest you take a look at the very low milage BiPAP Pro 2 on Yahoo Auction, the starting bid is a very low $500.00. As for the leak, I think you should try the Moleskin, applied to the
mask, not your skin.

If you rally want some tape, I can suggest 3M Micropore. However, it
needs to be soaked well in hot water before you can safely remove it.

Soak in hot water to remove it from the roll or soak the hot water on my face to remove it from my nose area ?
The skin under my eyes is a bit tender for any tape that may have to be soaked to be removed, wouldn't you think?
Also, how many sleep tests will insurance pay for and how often? I would think, from what my son tells me, that it would be cheaper to give me the Auto equipment and send me home for the test at home than to go back to the hospital bed for the six hour testing. My pressure surely cannot be so high all the night.
I will be 6 months on this equipment by end of next week. Should I ask for another test at that time and then suggest the Auto PAP ?

Everybody's insurance is different. You will need to call your own insurance company to find out the answers to these questions.

The Moleskin, applied to the mask, not your face, should be more effective.
But if my titrated pressure was 20 cu/H2O,l I would find a way to get a BiPAP
unit.
