Need list of data capable machines
I know I have seen several good lists of machines that are data capable, or not, but I am having trouble finding them. Can some one point me to a couple of the best lists to give to a person that didn't know better than to except what the DME said was all they needed.

Is this the list your were looking for?
http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/
It isn't quite complete as it isn't updated for the 60 series Respironics machines I don't think.
Personally I would limit the scope to ResMed and Respironics machines as they are the 2 main players.
For ResMed machines...simply avoid any machine with Escape in the model name and that is easily seen on the top of the machine. Also don't accept any S8 models that might even be new and full data...the S9 is newer and better and the card reader needed to use the S8 and ResScan is nearly impossible to find and very pricey when found.
Avoid these 2 ResMed S9 machines.
S9 Escape ...hours of use only
S9 Escape Auto...hours of use. It does offer overall AHI but nothing else useful so I don't recommend it
For full efficacy data with the ResMed S9
That would be S9 Elite and the S9 AutoSet
any higher end VPAP machines all offer full data...no brick VPAPs are made.
for Respironics machines.
Avoid any model number below 460 and the model number is shown on the bottom of the blower unit.
It is sometimes hard to tell exactly what the model name is by just the name shown unless you know what to look for
The 60 series are the latest and I wouldn't accept anything older.
PR System One 60 Series Plus CPAP with CFlex...model 260...avoid
full data models
The PR System One 60 Series Pro Cpap model 460... and the PR System One 60 series Auto CPAP model 560
any higher end bipap machine models are all full data...no bricks are made with those higher end machines now.

Re: Need list of data capable machines
Skip anything but ResMed S9 and Philips Respironics PRS1 machines unless you don't have a choice or have some other really good reason. S9 and PRS1 are both good, and there are plenty of people here who know how to use them.
Pugsy and Robysue have good advice above, especially the machines to avoid.

Re: Need list of data capable machines
Thank you for your helpful list of CPAP machines. Now that I have the list, how do I find a reputable place to buy from? The medical equipment places in the Seattle area that I have reviewed via Yelp are all 1* rated - poor customer svc, bad billing issues, etc. Has anyone bought their CPAP machine online? How do you know if you're getting NEW equipment vs. refurbished (assuming that's even possible)? This will be my first "efficacy capable machine" and I don't want any purchase problems. Also, can anyone tell me how much the "smart card" machines cost - ballpark figure is fine.
