I have been using the Pilairo Q for over 2 months now. In the last couple of weeks, I've been having some leak issues. I will wake up in the night and there will be some air leak noise. It's not a leak between the pillow and my nose/face, but between the pillow and the frame. I find that a quick push on the bottom part of the pillow will snap it back in place. This sometimes will happen more than once in a single night.
Is this just wear and tear of the mask? Could it be the pillow stretching or the frame wearing out? I'm wondering if I need to replace one or both. Or if this has been happening all along and I'm just noticing it now.
Any other Pilairo Q users out there? What is your experience?
Thanks!

Pilairo Q and all nasal pillow cushions have a replacement schedule of 2 per month.

2 per month? That sounds excessive. I've priced them out from a Canadian supplier and they cost $42 (although I've seen them as low as $25 on some US sites). So that would be $600 to $1000 a year. I'm mostly covered by health plan through work, but I don't know if they would cover that much, and even if they did, I could see that being a contributing factor to premium increases. Maybe the coverage is different other places.Guest wrote:Pilairo Q and all nasal pillow cushions have a replacement schedule of 2 per month.
I'll have to check with my plan provider and the sleep centre.

Re: Pilairo Q users, how often do you get new parts?
Maybe you got a dud with the nasal pillow not wanting to stay secure. Normally I would think it should stay secure better.
Usually when nasal pillows get tired it is the body of the nasal pillow that gets tired. The inner cones tend to collapse and seal is difficult to maintain. I haven't heard of the pillow itself becoming so easily dislodged from the area where it is attached to the frame. I did use the original Pilairo but only to see how it would work. Probably about a week or so ...so not enough time for it to get tired. I can/could use it but I found the bulk of the nasal pillow a bit annoying so it would be way down on my preference list.
I am not sure what I would replace in your situation. Might inspect the attaching area closely to see if you see anything amiss.
If it's the frame attaching area a new nasal pillow probably won't fix things.
What you are experiencing doesn't seem to be common though. The original Pilairo as well as the Q (I don't know if they changed the attachment area) have been in use for some time now and at least among forum members here who use it this is the first I have heard of your problem.
Me personally with any of the nasal pillow masks I have used....I get months of use out of the pillows...any brand and I would expect the same with the Pilairo. Just because my insurance might allow 2 per month doesn't mean I had to use 2 per month.
The life of any mask is likely going to depend on a person's facial oils and cleaning regiment. Some people get a really long life and some don't.

Thanks for the reply Pugsy. I had used the original version when I was on the trial and then bought the Q when I bought the equipment. I think the only change is the diffuser and the second set of adjustable headgear.
I'm going to do as you suggest and examine the attachement area and then take it in to my sleep centre to see what they think.

Re: Pilairo Q users, how often do you get new parts?
I have been using the Pilairo for many months. You have to be sure that the cushion is "snapped" in place. I have not had one come loose and I have been using it for about 9 months. I do NOT like the new headgear, but luckily when I replace the headgear the old style is included. I got a shipment of 2 per month, but I think I could still be using the original cushion! And I don't wash it, either. Hardly ever.
Re: Pilairo Q users, how often do you get new parts?
Sounds like there may be an issue with mine then as I make sure it is snapped in place and there have been times that when I've snapped it back in place it comes loose again later in the night.
I do wash mine every couple of days with baby shampoo. Maybe overwashing?

Sometimes, frequent washing can contribute to early demise of silicone parts.
