Or at least it sure seems like it is.
I just changed one of my PRS1 760s over from BiPAP mode at 11/7 to CPAP mode at a pressure of straight 9 cms, and the blower sounds substantially louder. Actually, a lot louder.
Is this possible or even likely?
And since I know it will be asked, I'm just trying to see if I can tolerate straight CPAP for a travel machine.
My machine is much louder in CPAP mode than BiPAP mode
My machine is much louder in CPAP mode than BiPAP mode

Re: My machine is much louder in CPAP mode than BiPAP mode
Perhaps the increased noise is just a coincidence. I suggest switching back to BiPAP mode to see if it goes back to the quieter state. I have the DeVilbiss Bi-Level and have been operating it in CPAP mode for the past few months and there hasn't been any change in the noise level. But I realize that different brands of machines may behave differently. Incidentally, I have had better AHI results in the CPAP mode than in Bi-Level.

Duke, I was actually comparing two supposedly identical machines, on in CPAP mode and the other in BiPAP. Turns out the louder machine is also louder in BiPAP mode, so the problem is with the machine itself.TheDuke wrote:Perhaps the increased noise is just a coincidence. Say, I'm curious, how do you like the Intellipap? Is it fairly quiet?

Re: My machine is much louder in CPAP mode than BiPAP mode
Responding to the question from "Old Dude" regarding my experience with the DeVilbiss Intellipap. I have the Intellipap Bi-Level S with heated humidifier. I have had this machine for about 15 months now, and I continue to be quite pleased with it. I have used XPaP for maybe 26 years now, and this is my fourth machine-and the first with any sort of patient readout. As regards its noise, it is so quiet that I really can't hear it running- Machine preference is pretty much an individual preference thing, but I especially like its compact structure and the ease of filling the water chamber, and the absence of the external power supply brick that I had with my previous Respironics BiPAP Plus. I have been using the ResMed Activa nasal mask for nearly ten years now and can't imagine using any other mask.
The Intellipap doesn't have as detailed information output as some of the Respironics or Res-Med machines, but I do get daily information on AHI,leaks, puffs, and "Non reporting Incidents". I have found that I have lower AHI index using the machine in CPAP mode than in the prescribed Bi-Level mode, so I have been using CPAP mode for over six months now.
