Panicking! Battery problems may leave me cpap-less

Post by ThisIsMyUserName » Sun Apr 27, 2014 6:17 am

For various reasons, I will need to rely on my CPAP battery for a few nights in coming weeks. I have the respironics series 60, and bought the CPAP.com battery pack and the CPAP.com Shielded DC Cord for PR System One 60 Series Machines. The battery charged just fine, but when I plugged it into the machine, it powers up but gave me a "Service Required" message and won't work. Nothing I can do seems to change that. I thought the problem might be the heated humidifier, so I removed that, but same thing. I tried recharging the battery to be sure, same thing. I exhaustively searched the boards, and others seem to have gotten the problem, but no one seems to give any advice on fixing it. I thought maybe the problem is something internal that my DME changed when they changed it to a heated humidifier? I don't know, this isn't my area of expertise. Someone did say that the "120V option" on the machine might fix the problem, but I have no idea what this is. Thoughts?

I am really panicking, since the idea of a number of nights without CPAP is scary, as you all know. Any help much appreciated!

Have you called CPAP.com? That would be my first step. They'll walk you right through it. Since it's their battery they have no doubt come across this before.

They're closed today, so I'll call them tomorrow. But that is 24 hours of freaking out; plus, I had a long conversation with them before I bought this and they were certain this would work flawlessly.

Which battery pack did you buy?
Seems like there was one that won't work with the 60 series though it should per specs. Talked about not long ago here on the forum. I will see if I can find it.
I know the battery that I have won't work either with my 60 series machine and I get same error message.
It works fine on a 50 series machine.

Pugsy,

Thanks for checking; I bought the series 60 one. The series 50 plug wouldn't fit properly, and I double-checked that I got it right. Who knows?

How much lead time do you have before you first need to use the machine on the battery?

As a backup to your backup; you could go with a deep cycle marine battery and 12 volt socket to use with the supplied 12 volt cable that came with your other battery; if you get pressed for time.
