So, I got my new Resmed S9 yesterday! This video helped me to set it up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypp_4ndDRzY
I haven't got a humidifier yet, so my nose and throat were very dry.
I set min pressure to 8 and max to 12 with a 20 minute ramp from 5.
I set EPR to OFF, ( on the previous machine it was set to 3 ) , but it was very uncomfortable and I woke up many times feeling too much pressure and opening my mouth ( I have nasal pillows ), with the EPR to 3 on the S8 I didn't open my mouth as much.
I'll try with an EPR set to 1 tonight.
I don't know if it's the new machine or the AHI setting ( maybe a combination ) , but my AHI is way down at 5.85! So that's good news.
Here are my reports:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/97w14z5282i5v ... .17.40.png
https://www.dropbox.com/s/tl0no4tgizmj5 ... .17.59.png
I woke up several times, ( wife getting up, dog jumping up on bed... ), and took off the mask for a while, and I can see the ramp in the pressure chart from those.
Actually, it looks like I had no events during the whole night until around 3, then it went up like crazy. Maybe the mask was not well positioned?

Your nose and throat may be dry if you sleep with your mouth open, and you may need to try a full face mask rather than just a nasal one. You can experiment by using blue painters tape (2" long across your lips) overnight and seeing if it makes a difference.
Re: First results from my new Resmed S9
Where's the leak line graph? It will help figure out if you are doing enough mouth breathing to seriously impact therapy but from your S8 reports I don't think that was the case unless it was very short lived.
Unless you just want to try a full face mask...I don't tell people that's what they need until I see proof that it is really needed.
While some people can do well with no added humidity....most people do need some and that's why it is part of a normal prescription for cpap therapy.
These are the main graphs that I like to see. The others aren't really needed.
The Left side AHI bar graphs which you show
and on the right side..Events graph, flow rate graph, pressure graph, leak graph and maybe flow limitation graph if it is very active. The AHI graph, mask pressure graphs can be turned off in Preferences/Graphs tab by removing the check mark by them.
Some people like and need EPR to sleep well. I was a bit afraid that turning EPR totally off would disturb sleep.
The bulk of your AHI was central (clear airway) apneas and we don't treat those with pressure with your machine. There's a good chance it was awake breathing getting flagged by mistake anyway.

It's missing on this version of the software I think. It's ticked in preferences...Pugsy wrote:Where's the leak line graph? No, the mask I bought was super expensive, they add a huge markup where I bought it. I should have waited and bought it off the internet.Pugsy wrote: Unless you just want to try a full face mask...I don't tell people that's what they need until I see proof that it is really needed.
I asked about humidifiers and there answer was that it wasn't necessary!Pugsy wrote: While some people can do well with no added humidity....most people do need some and that's why it is part of a normal prescription for cpap therapy.

Yeah, I think I'll try playing around with EPRPugsy wrote: Some people like and need EPR to sleep well. I was a bit afraid that turning EPR totally off would disturb sleep.

I do think it was misdetected as central apneas, I do remember being awake a few times with the mask on.
Here's the graph settings:

Re: First results from my new Resmed S9
This is the SleepyHead Mac version isn't it?
Which Mac version?
The absence of the leak line shouldn't be happening. That's a bug and first time I have heard or seen that happen with the Mac version.
If you got the regular Mac version from the download page link in my signature line...go back and look for the link to the unstable builds...and get the latest unstable Mac version build. It's remarkably stable.
If that's what you got...go back and get the other build...Jimbos Mac build.
The leak line graph should show up...
But we can get an approximation by evaluating the leak statistics on the left side below AHI graphs....do you have leak statistics? If so what do they say? Might need to scroll down a bit to get to leak statistics.

Oh.... I might have a full face mask that you can just have and I can include it in the box with the humidifier if you want the humidifier...I would need to get a bigger box though. Wouldn't have to be hugely bigger though. Won't affect shipping costs all that much because the weight is mainly in the humidifier. The mask doesn't weigh much.
Do you want to try a full face mask? I don't have but a few and and limited sizes but maybe might have something that would work. But I don't push full face masks on people until I have confirmation that leaks are so bad from mouth breathing that there is no other choice and all other options (chin strap or tape) have failed...unless a person wants one.
Some people simply don't like the idea of a full face mask for whatever reason and any reason is good enough for me.
Based on your S8 leak numbers....leaks weren't huge and you were well below large leak territory leak numbers so that's why I haven't mentioned full face mask use...they are expensive and if someone simply doesn't want to go down that road I don't try to go down it unless all other options have failed.
Let me know about the full face mask...do you even what to go down that road...it's free...but I will need to find one and your size and get the box redone to get postage estimate.
If you want to try one...I will go see which ones I have available.
I have the Liberty in a size small...used one night to try on only...I think I have an Amara in size medium...I need to go check inventory for sure but if it doesn't even interest you...I won't bother.

Re: First results from my new Resmed S9
Thanks Pugsy, I'll try and figure out what is up with my Sleepyhead over the weekend. Plus I'll have more data to share.
I did try on a full face mask briefly when I rented the S8, but yeah, I'm not a fan...thanks for the offer though. I'll try the tape.

Try the tape for the dry mouth...not because of leaking impacting therapy though as I doubt any mouth breathing is bad enough to impact pressure therapy. Your prior S8 leak numbers didn't point to huge leaks at all.
It takes very little mouth breathing to dry out the mouth...been there and done that. I have had a Sahara desert dry mouth from just 5 minutes of mouth breathing (fairly easily spotted on the leak graphs) that doesn't even reach large leak territory. I have woke up with mouth open, mouth breathing, dry mouth and checked the software reports to see just how much mouth breathing was going on and sometimes there's only a tiny blip in the leak line...no where near large leak territory.
Taping your mouth won't help the dry nose though. That's an air movement over the nasal mucosa situation. The air movement is drying out the nasal mucosa.
Now you might try some extra hydration right before bedtime to see if that helps until you can get a humidifier.
Something like Simply Saline nasal spray done right before bedtime might help hydrate the nasal mucosa a bit.
Also doing it during the day will help alleviate the dryness feeling from the night before. So maybe using something like Simply Saline during the day and at bedtime...sure won't hurt anything as long as you just use simple saline mix and not any of the other chemical stuff for congestion like Afrin.
Full face masks don't always alleviate dry mouth anyway...even with humidifier use maxed out. We get tons of complaints here from full face mask users about dry mouth.
All the full face mask use means is that if mouth breathing significantly then the therapy pressure is still maintained.
