Sometimes it's the apnea (not getting enough/proper sleep and being unhealthy for a long time) and sometimes the meanness is bone-deep.

Thanks, Sheriff. I have tried to avoid the type of discussions that are what I consider uncivil. Last night it felt hurtful to me so I spoke out. Today I will leave it alone although I still think it's wrong to take out your own misery on other people. I would never (hopefully, never say never ) get involved in a political or religious discussion because I have strong conservative beliefs which are currently under attack in our country. Anyway, I come here to learn and interact with nice people!

Most of it is none of my business and I do understand the concept of "trolling". I just don't understand why people enjoy getting a rise out of each other although it's everywhere. I think I may not want to understand it!
To be incensed by meanness and rudeness isn't showing immaturity. It shows a compassion and caring that is very lacking these days. Many people hide behind the anonymous nature of the internet and behave in a way they wouldn't dream of IRL. I don't understand that mentality and cannot wrap my mind around it. I have a strict philosophy about internet behavior (for me obviously). I treat people the same way I would treat them if they were sitting in my family room. If I wouldn't dream of saying it to their face, I won't say it over the internet.

Unfortunately, people, in general, have become very selfish and mean spirited. And it's becoming more common and obvious IRL, not just over the internet.

My advice to you is to get what you can from the forum, make friends with those that have a similar belief system, and ignore what you find upsetting. Otherwise, you'll make yourself crazy watching some of the behaviors.
Thanks, Madalot. I think that's good advise. I'm sometimes torn between "mind your own business" and "all it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing" (paraphrasing don't know if that is the exact quote). Had an interesting interaction with someone texting about buying something on CG. She didn't like my questions and called me every name in the book and then threatened to kick my ass!! I had to block her to make her stop.....what the heck are people thinking? The anger infecting lots of people is just scary!

It's your business and I really don't care, but your avatar clearly doesn't square with someone who eschews rudeness and meanness and is looking for nice people with whom to interact.

It is obviously designed for pure shock value and it does a good job at that. But if you're being realistic nothing about it indicates that you're a "nice" person looking for other "nice" people.

Well thank you for your opinion and you have proven my point. I never claimed to be "nice". However, someone was nice enough to ask politely and privately if I would remove it and I said I would consider it and was doing so seriously. Now that you have given rude and public input, I believe it will take me much longer to consider it. See how it's best to be nice?

My intent is not too shock. It's graphic art for goodness sake! My intent is to express myself artistically. I write horror. This avatar is kind of amusing. I took down the other one which I thought people might find kind of scary. BTW.....your problem and yours alone if you consider me "not nice". I know I've done nothing to harm you in any way so my conscience is clear. It appears some people need more to do!

I couldn't care less if you change it or not, and I made that abundantly clear.

I was, and am simply pointing out that to display it is completely counter productive to what you profess to want to see in others.

If you yourself find that you need more to do, take another crack at convincing us that your avatar isn't designed to shock. Your last effort was a fail.

Your OPINIONwas duly noted.

I see that I'm perilously close to falling into one of those ridiculous and rude arguments some of you here are fond of. I don't care about convincing anyone, if you feel it's shocking then I honor your opinion. As you say, you are an old man and I respect my elders. I am done with this topic so if it makes you happy, go on and write something else and have the last word. I will not respond. Have a lovely evening!
