One year anniversary report

Post by Jack356 » Sat Apr 12, 2014 11:13 am

Hi all---I rarely post but do read the new posts almost every day.

It's now almost a year since I started with the CPAP machine. At first I never thought I'd ever get used to it but I have.
I learned to adjust settings from where the not-all-that-smart sleep doc had it at the start (20!!) causing it to blow right off my face. Now I have a fairly low setting that gives me what I believe are the #1 and #2 important readings;

#1 AHI and my number is always 1-2 every night.
#2 Large leaks- can be responsible for a bad number for #1. My leaks are either zero or 1.

Based on these parameters would you say that I'm good to go and need not worry much about other scores for other items?

One thing I have learned is that the automatic machine will sense a leak as calling for a higher pressure. If I do get a leak turnoing over for example and the pressure rises past what I know I really need, I simplt hit the "off" button and 10 seconds restart it ---and with the ramp. I get immediately back to sleep. This rtook me 10 months to learn. Anyone else do this?

Many caring and sharing folks on this site and the generosity and willingness to share is just amazing.

Comments appreciated!

I've been on CPAP for 14 years but only on an Auto machine for a little over year. I've never felt the need to turn my machine off & back on. In fact I almost never wake at night. It sounds unusual, but perhaps it just has never happened to me. I think some other members will chime in here on your odd awakening to restart your machine. I really don't think this is normal, I'm just not sure where to begin in finding the answer to this anomaly.

On another note, congrats on 1 year, this is a great milestone in your therapy.

Happy Anniversary!
I stopped using the APAP in favor of the CPAP. The change in pressure was waking me frequently.
The CPAP mode has been great.
Best,
Lee Ann
