Newbie with a mask question
Newbie with a mask question
I have an appointment Thursday April 17th to get my machine. I used the ResMed P10 Nasal Pillow during my sleep study and really liked it. That is the mask I intend to get. However, I have a question I am hoping you all can help me with. I know that it is highly unlikely that I will be able to use this mask when I have a cold. So I'm going to need a different kind of mask to use on those occasions. Should I be using my 30 day exchange period to experiment with alternate masks? What should I be looking for as an alternate mask for when I have a cold? Do I want to figure out which 2 masks are going to work for me during this 30 day exchange period and then make sure at the end of the 30 days I keep the more expensive of the 2 masks and then purchase the less expensive one out of pocket? If so, any advice on how to go about this?

Re: Newbie with a mask question
A full face mask is going to work best when you have a cold, then you can get therapy air with whichever is not clogged up - nose or mouth. I'm a newbie too, on cpap since Feb. 3. I'm going to pass on giving you ideas for how to go about it - I'm still using the full face that I started with, a Quattro Air only in a small rather than the medium that the fitting guide suggested. Keeping the larger one for backup as it works for me, it's just leakier. I do suggest though that if you have too much trouble with leaking from a FF mask, that you try mask liners... RemZzzzs work nicely, and so do Pad-A-Cheeks. I would not still be using the Air if it weren't for the liners.

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.
Re: Newbie with a mask question
Many people go through a dozen masks before they they find what works best. Often if you take a mask home to try and tell them you don't like it they will let you keep it instead of throwing it away.

Re: Newbie with a mask question
Given the cost difference between the P10 and most full face masks you probably have a good idea. Especially if insurance/medicare is in Play.
Re: Newbie with a mask question
Yes, that's my thought. I'm pretty sure I want the P10 but since the P10 is much cheaper than a full face mask, I'd rather pay for it out of my pocket and get the insurance to pay for the full face mask which costs considerably more. So I'm thinking I should try out the P10 for a few days just to be sure it works for me as well in "real life" as it did during the sleep study and then move on to trying full face masks in the hopes of finding one that I like. Then I would keep the full face and have the insurance pay for it and then purchase the P10 out of pocket.
