tested by doctor for AHIs after you started cpap?

I often wonder how well my treatment is actually working.
And I wonder about the accuracy of the info on my machine.
But I have yet to go back to the doctor to be tested while using my cpap.
And I sleep alone, so there is no one to tell me if I am snoring or holding my breath.
I never had any definitive symptoms, so I don't have any changes to go on.
I know, I know…then go and get tested.

Just wondering how many of you have taken your cpap machine back to your sleep center and spent the night to check things out…and what did you find?

Your profile shows a data-capable Auto Bi-Flex machine. Don't you check your data with software?

Personally, I couldn't wait to get away from my sleep doctor. I never want to go through another sleep study again. I just check my data each morning. It tells me my therapy is working just fine.

Don't you ever wonder how exact the info on your machine is?
It can't be anywhere as sophisticated as the testing equipment that your doctor uses.
It would be interesting to hear from someone who took their machine back to their sleep doctor and checked it out with a real sleep study.

Nope.
I realize it's based on "air flow", but I trust the accuracy when I'm asleep. I also have multiple machines and have alternated them for a month at a time in prior years to cross-check the data from them. And, even if my data (AHI & snores) was 100 times worse, I'd still be well within the parameters of acceptability.
When you check your data on a regular basis, you can come to trust it.

I did go back and was studied while using CPAP at my usual home pressure, but they only retested me because of continued sleep problems and for evaluation of my legs movements while on CPAP. Over the years I've had several sleep studies - kinda lost track, but about 4 titrations and a couple using my machine as prescribed. Over those times I've had at home an S8 AutoSet by ResMed and 2 different Respironics M Series Pros. My nights in the lab didn't reveal any surprising differences. But my OSA is quite the garden variety. I might be more concerned if I had central or complex apnea. Had I not had so many studies, I'd probably wonder too about the reliability of machine data.

If you took your CPAP to your doctors office to sleep overnight, the machine would show THE SAME data that it would have shown at home. You need a sleep clinic.

I'm not likely to go through that hell again unless Medicare or the doctor demands it!
My sleep doc likes the data from my machine; why shouldn't I be satisfied?

that's not the point…the point is to wear all the electrodes and other devices that give more information than your cpap machine….while using your cpap machine.
to see how accurate your cpap machine is and if using your machine solves all the issues you had before you started cpap…of which there are more than just AHIs

Their machine (probably a Respironics "OmniLab") is also wired into their data-collection configuration, too.

I wasn't too clear...I meant she needs a sleep study in a sleep clinic.

Does anyone think that any insurance company (including Medicare) would pay for this? Paying it out of pocket would not be cheap!

My one & only Sleep Study was done over 16 years ago.

My Sleep Doctor periodically talks about another Sleep Study that the insurance would pay for (now Medicare) - but they would pay ONLY if I was having problems, which I am not, so we have never done it.

My position has always been that I would avoid another Sleep Study like the plague.

If someone could convince me that another Sleep Study while I was using my own APAP could be productive, I might consider it. But, right now I don't see any need.

I thought you were clear.
I was just making a point about a person using their own equipment in a sleep lab. Ain't gonna happen. And, it would probably be an expensive "equipment check" for that person.
