CPAP rushing leaks
I am two months into my CPAP, and .not adjusting well. I'm finding plenty of information to deal with the dry mouth, so I'm working on that. I have only tried a FFM so far. I am a mouth breather for 56 years, I have a deviated septum that causes me to be able to only breathe out of one side of my nose. I likely will never be able to go to just a nasal piece. I have one question, though, for which I can't find any information. I wake up about every up every 90 minutes to an hours with the winding rushing into my mask. SO hard sometimes that it causes my cheeks to puff out, and push the mask away from my head so it leaks. It's like there's too much air. I turn the machine off, turn it on again, use the ramp, then a couple hours later it happens again. Do I need the machine adjusted, or are leaks causing the air flow pressure to increase? Walking up 4 or 5 times a night is a pain, and some days I'm still tired, probably not from apnea, but simple because of the lack of sleep. Any ideas?

Re: CPAP rushing leaks
Please register and add your equipment info so we know what we're dealing with.
Without knowing which machine you have and how it's set up to deliver therapy, and what pressure it's set for, it's going to be hard to guess at what's going on.
If you have an Auto-Titrating machine it could be set wide open and it may have to run the pressure up high to compensate for apneas.
It also could be the mask or how you have it adjusted.

Re: CPAP rushing leaks
These newer technology machines don't go chasing leaks with more pressure like the older technology machines were known to do. In fact most often these newer machines actually back off the pressure a bit when they sense a large leak.
More information as to which machine you are using and pressures used and hopefully software reports to see what is going on would be helpful.

I am using a Respironics PR System One REMstar BiPAP Pro with Heated Humidifer. The mask is the type that covers the nose and mouth, I'm sorry I'm not familiar with the model on that.

That's a a straight Cpap machine. Do you know what pressure it's set at?
If you don't, just look at the screen when it's running and it tells you what pressure it's running at.
Also try to find some identifying marks on the mask.
