I was just diagnosed with sleep apnea. I did the overnight sleep test with the 26 sensors attached. What they found is that my AHI was 149 per hour. And they felt very confident these results were correct. They also said my oxygen level went as low as 76 percent.
I am going to get my CPAP hopefully by Friday of next week. I am so tired and weak all the time I feel like I am losing my mind. The doctor was surprised that I didn't even fall asleep at work, in the car, etc during the day. I am extremely fatigued 100 percent of the time. Until recently I had no idea I had sleep apnea. My doctor did like 12 blood tests and they were all normal. He basically just told me "it was all in my head" since I have had depression problems my whole life. Of course, I knew better.
I found an internist who had me do the finger oxygen test and then the overnight test. I'm grateful he actually thought about things and didn't just push me off.
I have read everywhere and can't find anything about an AHI score being as high as mine. I'm kind of freaked out. Anyone else have a score that high or close?
AHI score
Re: AHI score
Mine was 140... I wasn't freaked out about it until I found this forum..
Make sure you get a full data machine... Don't let you supplier give you a brick.
I know exactly how you feel...........

Re: AHI score
You guys offer me comfort.
My score was only 86. I didn't know enough to freak out at the time.
Now I generally stay under 3. Wednesday my ABI was 0.2. There is light at the end of the tunnel and so far the train has not run me over.
Stick with it and good luck.

Re: AHI score
Those are definitely some scary scores. I was pretty shocked to learn that I stop breathing (or have reduced breathing) an average of more than once a minute. (ahi of 79+) I can't imagine how I would feel at more than twice a minute. Especially when each time is more than 10 seconds long.
I do wish they were improve the scoring system to include the length of events and oxygen destaurations. There are people being told they are mild when they really have some long events causing big desaturations, and they are more likely to skip treatment because they were told it was mild. Also, doctors who only check ahi won't know when treatment isn't really working. My mom had a pressure of 10 and when she used my machine with data, her ahi was 3.4. Great, right? Well she had a cluster of apneas that were 30+ seconds long, and one of them was over a minute. NOT great! She was still severe in terms of her heal, even though her ahi suggested that she was successfully treated.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
