They increased daughter's pressure

Post by SleepyonMagnoliaSt » Fri Mar 28, 2014 12:25 pm

They've bumped her up to 10. She'll start out at 4 and ramp to 10. Tonight will be the first night with the new pressure so I'm a bit worried. Hopefully she tolerates it ok!

Just a thought - you didn't say how long the ramp time was set for, but it shouldn't be very long as 10 is not very high at all... the thing is though, I wonder about starting her at 5 or 6 rather than 4, because most of us feel like we can't breathe at all at 4 (or 5-6 for that matter) and have stopped using the ramp altogether unless our pressures are set much higher than 10... it can take a few days (at most) to get used to the air 'blast', but once it's done, life's a lot easier.

Shes been using the ramp so far without any problem at all with it at 4. Up until now her pressure has been 6. It ramps up after 20 minutes I think it is.

Really everything is working great without problems we just needed a pressure increase. She's doing 10 hours a night on the CPAP

Wow, bumped it up by 4, that's a big bump. She must be autoset, not straight cpap?

I believe it's straight cpap, and that is a jump especially for a little one. But she is a trooper, and hopefully she'll sleep right through it. If not, would the doc give an OK for you go back down and just do 1 cm at a time, maybe give her a week or two on 7, then 8, etc.?

Makes a lot more sense, she may not have to go all the way to 10 to see the desired results, and by going up incrementally you'd find that out.

In fact, I'd go so far as to recommend that as the more humane and effective way to get there. That way she gets used to each setting, rather than almost doubling the pressure all at one time. And maybe you're done before you get to 10cm, you won't know that without going through the intermediate steps.

Doh!

It's straight Cpap. If she doesn't tolerate it tonight I'm supposed to call the resp therapist tomorrow and we'll bump it up more slowly. Because of how well she tolerates it they aren't super concerned she won't.

I think they guessed. They refused to retitrate. Today I was supposed to take her card in for a download and got yelled at for not bringing the machine for a pressure change (I wasn't TOLD to)

And she came out and goes 'I changed the prescription on the SD card to 10. When you put it in it will reset the prescription.'

Yay, looking forward to that!

Hey I was just looking back at last week's posts about Raeden's recent AHI readings, and noted Pugsy's comment:
And yes...needs a little more pressure..might be as little as 1 cm more...2cm maybe but not much more than that I would think.
RogerSC is suggesting the same thing.

If she has trouble with 10 tonight, do you feel comfortable dialing the pressure back down yourself so she can have a gentler adjustment? Or do you have to keep going back to the RT, DME...?

They are tracking everything we do. So I'm not comfortable dialing back pressure without their say so. If this doesn't work out we'll make an appointment with the RT next week.

She's asleep on 10 as a pressure now
