Hi, I'm new here not to CPAP

Post by DeniseR7 » Sun Mar 16, 2014 11:28 am

Hi, I am new here and it only took me like 5 tries to get registered. I still have not heard from the admin.

well, anyway, I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea since 2009. I have been using a nasal mask. I was doing ok, until starting last year, I was not getting up refreshed.
this started my round of finding a sleep specialist. The one I will be seeing again has suggested I get the special mouth guard. After researching it, I have decided not to. I am doing really well on my machine and I don't like the side effects I have read about the guard.

I don't know why she didn't want to up my pressure.

I still need to get all that info to put in my profile here. but with the troubles registering, I just didn't look for it.

thanks for listening!

How to post equipment in profile
wiki/index.php/Registering_Equipment_in_User_Profile

Until you get that sorted out...just tell us what you are using here in the body of the text.

If you have a full data machine...there may be some software options to help you figure out what might be going on in terms of therapy.
It's best to confirm a need for more pressure before doing it if at all possible. Not all issues are related to the need for more pressure.

Tell us exact full model name and we can tell you if it is a full data machine or not.

thanks - I was wondering about increasing pressure, she seemed abrupt - like "visit this person I know for a guard". I did get the data sent to her for review.

What data? Did you happen to get a copy of what she saw?

Again, what machine are you using?
Not all machines gather really useful data and it isn't uncommon for docs/DMEs to just do the "hours of use" thing and not look at anything else and tell people "everything is fine" when the machine a person is using doesn't even gather leak data so how do they know that leaks aren't a problem....believe me...I sleep through some massive leaks sometimes so just because a person doesn't wake up with leaks doesn't mean that they don't happen.

I didn't think to ask for the data, I managed to get the unloaded data to the sleep doctor.

I have updated the info on my machine -
I am using a ResMed 4Hi, with a Mirage FX mask for her - I know the humidor is heated thru the machine, although I am on the cool side and I have no clue as to what pressure I have right now.

Yikes! PAP is the gold standard for treating obstructive sleep apnea!
If this were my doctor, she would me my former doctor!
Sounds like "somebody" might be hoping for a kickback on dental devices.

That is the humidifier model...not the blower unit model. It was used with the S8 series of machines.
Look on your machine for any other words like
Escape
Elite
AutoSet
Compact

Only the Elite and Autoset offers any data beyond hours of use.

well, I spoke with the place that services me for the machine. I call this place to order a new hose or mask. there seemed to be rows of data and the gentleman I spoke to said I was having about 8 sleep apneas a night. He said he thought it could be solved by increasing the pressure. They treat me very well, get my new equipment out to me in a hurry. I should call and ask for copies of the data. tomorrow!

the Doctor was trying to get rid of my morning headaches by using a mouth guard. I don't get many any more so the few I get are not a huge problem. they don't last for long.
this next visit in April will be the one where I either keep her or look for a new doctor. I suspect I may need to do a sleep test for her. hate them.

I have to check my machine too.
