You have nothing to be sorry about. "strife" exists here and shows itself in at least one thread a week. It just happened to be a thread you started this time.

Many people seem to want to make their opinions heard so badly that it comes across as mean spirited. What for? The same thing can be said nicely or not at all.

We are all different people with different opinions - not right or wrong necessarily, just different. I'm all for saying what you believe to be true... it's the way in which you say it that makes all the difference. We all get peeved about stuff... here and in life. It's the way in which you say you're peeved that makes the difference. There is just no point in making someone feel they have to defend their point of view.

Our world is "strifed" enough... I'm thinking twice about buying airline tickets to a state in the states. More strife... who needs it.

Pugsy wrote:Agree with Den...don't worry about it. You have a right to feel the way you do and to be honest...for the most part I am a bit "irritated" myself as it costs me a bit of time (that sometimes I don't have) to check out an unread post in an old thread that really doesn't warrant a reply or my time reading it just in case it might be a real cry for help and not just chit chat.

I spot resurrected polls with no new comments easily so I don't even bother opening them.

In regards to someone's suggestion of sub forums...been there and done that on other forums and I know what people would do...they would still post in the wrong sub forum anyway. Tried it once myself on my own forum for computer help in removing bad guys/viruses...people still didn't follow directions and would post in the wrong sub forum.
So might as well have one main forum and just sort through the posts that way.

To be honest...the only time I wish we had a sub forum here and a moderator with cahonies...is to move the pissing contest argument/fight threads to their own sub forum...called Pissing Contests.
That way all the political/religious/whatever pissing contests could be totally easily ignored...out of sight and out of mind.
And yes, before anyone brings it up...I know that I have been involved in some pissing contests myself....I am only human.
Sorry Pugsy... your post sounded a bit too reasonable to me and you're giving me even more strife. I'm just a little tired of your reasonable, helpful posts! Cut it out!

If you have too much to worry about in your own life why don't you stop worrying about everyone else...... it will make your life so much easier in the long run. You may have been a moderator on the other forum, but we don't have or need moderators on this forum, we get along just nicely. Just ignore what you see and hear that you don't like and your life will settle into a very happy one.
Not trying to upset your apple cart, just trying to get you to forget what other folks do or say and concentrate on yourself.
Every time I read one of your posts I can count on it being mean spirited - and for no reason at all. 49er was never a moderator on the other forum. Where did you get that information? You're the one who sounds like a moderator. Read your post! Ummm... not trying to upset your apple cart.
Perhaps Ems, I didn't get my point across to 49er like you would have wished. I know that she has had lots of health problems lately and that alone can make a person worry about things that they should not. I was trying to point out that she worries about things that she need not to, she needs to concentrate on herself and not let other's posts get to her. About the moderator thing, I thought (and you know what thought did) that I had read on another thread that she volunteered over there... I assumed (and yes I know what assumed means) that she meant she was one of the moderators I was not posting to be mean spirited or anything of the sort... I was trying to get 49er to realize that she needs to let things go that upset her, I do know that when you are worrying about yourself that it tends to go into a spiral and you unknowingly start worrying about everything. Which makes things worse all round.. and Ems.. I don't need you to start on me for not being explicit or not saying something in the way you would have liked to hear it..... I say what I believe and try to say it in a way that comes out of my mouth in a good way... so now I will be mean spirited... if you don't like my posts.... DON'T READ THEM, OR BETTER STILL PUT ME ON YOUR FOE LIST. .... thank you and good bye.
Nan,

I am perfectly capable of deciding what posts I want to respond and not respond to as an FYI. You keep misinterpreting what I say and refuse to give me the benefit of the doubt.

I find it interesting that I hadn't chime in on this particular issue in weeks and as soon as I had something to say, you just had to say something about my post with your alleged concerns.

Jen,

You absolutely did nothing wrong and I am definitely not angry at you. You had every right to your opinion and said it in a very nice way.

I know there are things that irritate me in life that probably wouldn't bother someone else. That is just the way we are as diverse human beings.

Sorry to all who don't agree with me, I was just plain peeved when I put this post up. Wish I hadn't, but there it is, you can't 'un-say' something & I still get peeved when I want to see if there is something that I might contribute to, help someone, or find helpful info for myself & hubby. I'll learn to just ignore old stuff, should have ignored anyway.

Still I must stand in part by my initial words, I AM PEEVED BY THE OLD POLLS.

I know it happens that someone new replies to an old post - I did make that mistake when I was new too, someone nicely pointed that out, so I learned to watch dates. I've pointed it out nicely to other newbies as well, IN THE SPIRIT OF HELP, NOT TO BE MEAN OR NASTY.

As I said in the original post, I'm SORRY, if I've offended anyone, just trying to point out that either we have a troll, or some newbie innocently is answering old polls & doesn't realize the outcome.

I don't want to see this forum become 'over moderated' - I like its current format. This forum is one of the best on the web IMHO. We can truly express our feelings & problems openly. As for it becoming a social forum, I think there is a 'family & friends' atmosphere about this forum, so that we do sometimes post OT. In at least one OT post, someone's life was saved. That alone is reason enough for allowing off topic posts, many relate in some way to OSA & other closely related problems.

We are here to help one another & I feel I may have contributed to strife among us & again I'M SORRY.

Jen

Hope I can get my login back.

I don't have anything against new people who post to an old topic. That is completely understandable.

What bothers me is when somebody is deliberately messing with the forum, pretty much every weekend, by digging up old polls, voting to bring them to the front, but not adding any comments. It has been going on for over 2 months, only on the weekends, and is clearly from one person.

Because of this, we have to be very careful when opening old posts and replying to them. I will not open an old topic if there isn't a current post at the end. I don't want to ignore new people who respond to an old post and need help. But I don't want a ton of old posts hogging the front page and taking away from the current topics.

It seems like there is such an easy solution - close the old polls, that we would be done with this by now.

I would think it would also be possible to figure out who is doing it and at the very least, out them. It is probably somebody from the other forum who doesn't like how helpful we are, and wants to hurt us.

For me, personally, this is an annoyance, and a weekly reminder that some jerk has the power to disrupt our forum, while nobody seems capable of doing anything about it.

Sorry, I am a newbie who may have contributed to this issue. I had no idea I should look for dates on the polls and answered a couple of them. I will be more careful now!

Don't give it a second thought.
Though here's a little hint...if you are just curious as to the poll results and want to see them...you can click on "view results" and it will satisfy the curiosity itch and not resurrect the entire thread.

I'm not a troll, nor do I go out of my way to upset people. I ask questions if I do not understand something. Definition of a troll:
In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally[3][4] or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[5] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
Actually, speaking of stuff that irritates us on the boards, is people signing every post with a name. There is no such need to do so, we know who you are, it says so on the left hand column.

Perhaps part of the problem is people accessing the forum through smart phones. I just downloaded Tapatalk to my own phone and regardless of how I choose the date setting, I get some mighty strange looking dates ...

Good point - I wasn't even aware of an app for this forum. This might be what is happening.

I think if that were the problem, it would be random. Not every weekend for the two three months. We go all week without this and then 20 old polls hit the list in one day. Every weekend.

Part of the problem is now being dealt with. It looks like old poll threads are being locked. I hope it applies to old threads and polls, and maybe a shut off of all polls. It seems to be helping, just not sure how far the controls will go.

Thanks Again! Jim

When the number of zombie threads increases, I am reminded of the behavior of neglected children,
who will do anything for attention--even negative--including corporal punishment.
If the poll troll is that lonely, he is indeed a miserable wretch. I would have pity if I were not annoyed.
