Might be a fun little project. Is there a limit as to how long the hose can be before too much resistance throws off the machine?

I'm sure there is a limit but I don't know what it is.
There are 10 foot hoses available so that number is likely to be OK.
But, with your 6 foot hose and a 2 foot extension after the coupler, you should be fine.
Installing your machine under the foot of your bed should make that combination workable.
Don't forget to keep the humidifier water chamber empty while driving around just to be safe.
