Try this:

http://www.covidien.com/rms/sales-suppo ... quiry-form

(I do not know why the % marks showed up, but this works for me. I just tested it, twice. Be sure to indicate that your comment/question is about the Breeze CPAP mask, so it gets directed to the correct department, Covidien makes and markets a LOT of medical equipment, and each line seems to have it's own department.

I was going to order it yesterday but there was a mixup with cpap.com. I idnt realize you had to have a prescription for just a mask, and cpap.com told me needed one. My drs nurse said they needed a request from cpap.com, so I called them and cpap.com told me they would send the request. They sent a request for a machine, and all involved, but I only wanted the mask. The drs office called and said they would not send the prescription until I had ANOTHER sleep study since mine was a few years ago. I wound up having to cancel the order with cpap.com. Help!? Where can I get a mask without having to have a prescription?

Plus I just don't understand why some other company doesn't pick up where Puritan left off and start making a mask very similar to the Breeze!

The short answer is that you can't get a mask w/o a scrip. This is Federal law, not just cpap.com policy. (Can't have us hoseheads abusing our masks, now, can we?) I agree, it makes no sense, but the law is clear. ALL CPAP masks are considered Class II medical devices and require prescription by law.

However, the quickest way out of your dilemma would be this. (I am assuming that your doc's insistence on a new sleep study is based on the request they got from cpap.com for an Rx for a machine in addition to a mask.) Call your doc who originally prescribed you and say that you need a copy of your RX for a MASK, not the machine, just the mask. They have to provide you with this as per HIPPA. If they say it's expired, remind them that mask Rx's don't expire, but if they continue to fuss, ask them to write a new Rx for the mask. They may want to fax it directly to cpap.com and that's OK, but insist on a copy of the RX for yourself. Again, they have to do this. If they balk, mention HIPPA and your state's medical board.

Then call cpap.com and ask how they want your RX sent to them, mail, fax, whatever. They will keep this on file and you can order your masks from then on. BTW, if you have the RX written for 'mask of patient's choice' You can order any mask. If you have a mask that you know works and wish to continue with it, the RX can list that mask specifically. But I would go with the more general phrasing to cover any possibility.

Good luck

Thanks, Bookbear! For the record it was Covidien that I talked to on the phone yesterday. But will try the link and email them.
The info on the RX is interesting. I was wondering why they didn't have to have a new one for my husband. Have ordered them for him many times over the years, but only sent an RX the first time. I wonder if I have messed up ordering for him now, since I am the one who always does the ordering. Guess I'll have to call them again and find out.

With cpap.com they only need the first RX...and it's good for pretty much life.
If cpap.com has a RX for your husband ...just order the Breeze under his name/RX.
For the record any doctor can okay/write the RX for cpap equipment...doesn't have to be a sleep doctor. It can come from your primary care doctor.

Just in case the breeze is becoming extinct, have been making do with the resmed fx with decent results.
Something i have been pondering is that i have quite a few used masks that still have life left and would like to get shed of.instead of throwing them out, was wondering if anyone would be interested ? would only want shipping, do NOT want to profit. one of these was given to me by RG several years back & i only used it once or twice. if there might be an interest i could list them. This site & folks have been good to me

Tim that is exactly what I did a few months back, just charged $10 for shipping and 00 for the masks. Mind you I didn't get all of the $10 sent to me as promised, but what the heck the masks were no good to me . Just hope they were put to good use by someone that needed them .
Cheers

Pugsy,
For the record I did talk to cpap.com and Federal law now requires a new prescription every time a mask is ordered.

Bookbear,
The Resmed FX that you refer to is just like the Swift FX Bella, only it is pink in color (for women). It is the one that I liked at first but now irritates the upper lip. And it keeps breaking the seal when I move, the weight of the part under the nose shifts it. I tried putting it over my headboard, but condensation came down the hose into my nose. Then I tried putting the hose behind my pillow. Both ways also made my nose feel like it was being pulled upward. I have a hard time falling asleep, even tho I take a sleep aid. Awake for a couple of hours after I go to bed and wake up during the night to adjust the mask nasal pillows.

Hi,

I just called cpap.com and as long as your prescription specifies lifetime such as the doctor putting in "99", you do not need a new prescription every time you order a new mask.

Not sure who you talked to but that's not correct...check out the RX FAQs at cpap.com.
Maybe someone new or they misunderstood your question or you misunderstood their answer.
https://www.cpap.com/cpap-faq/Prescriptions.html

I sent a copy of my RX to cpap.com in the summer of 2009......I can't count the number of masks I have bought from them but most recent was in January of this year and I have never had to produce a new RX.

I have ordered masks from cpap.com for hubby and asked sales person if I could just order a Breeze for him again. She said not without a prescription for him. I told her that I had ordered for him before but sherepeated what was said prior. She said it was a recent change for them so maybe it was instituted after you ordered in January.

The change happened in late summer early fall of 2009...not all that recent.

And....I just now ordered another mask and the order was processed just fine. No prompt for a new RX or anything.

If your prior order was before that change in 2009 then they won't have a RX on file for you and that's why you need one now.

Call back and talk to someone else who knows what they are doing.
