Corn Oil Better than Olive Oil

Post by OhHelpMe » Fri Feb 28, 2014 1:24 pm

WTF?????
Clinical Study Findings:
A recent study found that Mazola Corn Oil lowers cholesterol more than extra virgin olive oil. 54 healthy men and women took part in the study which showed that eating foods made with corn oil resulted in lower levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol and total cholesterol than eating the same foods made with extra virgin olive oil. Click here to see a study summary.

The Plant Sterols Difference:
Mazola Corn Oil has more cholesterol-blocking plant sterols than other cooking oils and 4x more than olive oil. Plant sterols are naturally occurring nutrients found in plants that can help block the body’s absorption of LDL (bad) cholesterol. You can find them in fruits, vegetables, nuts and corn oil. Learn more about plant sterols here.

I'm "SHOCKED" that you found it on the Mazola website. I wonder if they paid for the study, too?

If I got my LDL any lower, it would be almost non-existent.
Going back to 2003, my blood draw reports have shown my LDL between 21 and 35.
My wife has used a variety of cooking oil. For some recent years, Canola oil and extra-virgin olive oil.

Doofus... its an advertising blurb by the company that makes corn oil... so of course they will say their product is better. Do you believe everything you read on the internet?
I will stick with my olive oil thank you.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

So you two prefer to get your information from the Olive Growers Council?

And, the various Canola growers associations.

But, I grew up on a farm in corn-growing country (the Cornhusker state) and have no problem using corn oil, either.
However, my wife does the majority of the cooking and she gets to choose what goes into the shopping cart.

Now that is maybe the most important rule for a married man's health and longevity! Forget the oil type, just keep the bride happy.

Serious misinformation. Olive oil is a MUFA. Corn is filler. Of course the corn industry is going to say its good for U!

Gotta agree with Goofproof. Our church operates a french fry stand at the local fair. We tried using healthy oil one year. ONE year. The folk did not appreciate it, and demanded that we go back to frying the potatoes in lard. But I do use olive oil for most stuff at home.

They may be correct, PUFAS like corn and canola oil DO lower LDL and total cholesterol best.

BUT . . .

What we also know (they don't mention, funny that) is that PUFAS are HIGHLY inflammatory. They are beginning to recognize that higher LDL and total cholesterol are PROTECTIVE as we age, but the real risk of heart disease comes from inflammation. So your numbers will come down, yes, while your real risk goes up. You may also see triglycerides, which are a much better predictor of cardiovascular risk, go sky high on corn oil. Great stuff, huh!

And, it's all GMO, bathed in plenty of Roundup, yum, yum.

BTW, olive oil is a great COLD oil, but choose coconut oil for high temperature cooking.

You are right Jan, olive and coconut oil are the best, but since I am allergic to coconut, I will stick to my EVOO by necessity.

Don't forget pastured animal fats, Nan. Tallow, lard, and ghee can take higher temps than olive oil.

I like to watch cooking shows and reading cookbooks quite a bit. They always say olive oil can safely be used for low to medium temperature cooking for only short durations, however don't let the olive oil start to smoke -for instance veggie sauteing or frying thin pieces of fish is okay. It should definitely not be used at high temperatures, like deep-frying chicken or french fries etc. Cold Pressed means lots of organic particles from the pressed olives remains in the oil, which helps boost its flavor (desirable) .. those particles are the first thing to burn off as smoke if you over heat the oil.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
