Do you disagree with it?

Re: Diet: Does this dude have it right?
Totally agree Julie. I have switched to that type of diet and while I can't comment on how effective it has been regarding my energy due to my pap therapy intolerance, my cravings for carbs have gone down big time. And I was a big time junk food eater.Julie wrote:Do you disagree with it?

And even when I do slightly cheat as I had a little extra dark chocolate yesterday, I don't go hog wild and binge like I might have in the past.
Oh help me, of course you can't believe everything you read on the internet. But do you believe everything a doctor tells you or writes just because that person has an MD by his/her name?

I eat pasta three times a day followed by one Red Delicious apple. Have done this for years. Lost a lot of weight and now keep my BMI very steady at 24. The doctor said to add the apple because I wasn't getting enough of certain substances from eating the pasta alone.Julie wrote:Do you disagree with it?

At breakfast I put a small spoon of grass-fed butter on spaghetti noodles. Lunch is a tiny amount of tomato sauce on penne pasta. Dinner is olive oil and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese on angel hair pasta. (Some nights I have a very small glass of sweet red wine.)
Works very well for me. Also makes for very simple grocery shopping, easy dish cleaning and an uncluttered cupboard.

What about meat and veggies though?

In my experience the absolute worst food you can eat if you are trying to lose weight, and I have lost just under 100lbs. Didn't do it eating pasta.OhHelpMe wrote:This is the brand of pasta I use,

Re: Diet: Does this dude have it right?
Bottom line for me, I would say, is that the author/article isn't any more wrong than all such articles are. But no more right either.
What I believe about diet:
It is possible to either gain weight or lose weight short term while eating any combination of food groups. And technically, ALL ways of eating--not just the officially suggested ways of eating--fail long term as far as health and weight loss, according to the science. That is because all people will still get sick and die of something no matter what they eat. And as far as weight loss specifically, the science says that weight-loss diets don't work long term; the weight almost always comes back within ten years no matter what your food-group preferences are, or become, or how much attention you pay to it.
My philosophy: Don't eat anything poisonous or allergy-inducing for you. Other than that, it is true that it will always be worth it for any human to put some effort into not letting culture, cost/availability, and sheer habit dictate any of our health choices, including our choices of foods and amounts. But I think we need to be insightful enough to understand that merely paying attention to what we eat, in the sense of tending to choose one food group over another, no matter how good we are at it, will never be the full solution to anything. It is at best one factor among several, perhaps hundreds, that are at play with our weight and our overall health.
Saying so won't sell any articles to all the people who believe that food choice is the holy grail of weight loss and health, though. It makes for boring reading. And the purpose of writing articles is to have them read. An article is either designed to tell you that you are right or that you are wrong. It is not written to tell you that what you believe about food-group choice has been proved scientifically not to matter all that much as far as measurable long-term results in lifespan. That is no reason to give up figuring out how to be healthy. But it is, to me, a reason to take all such theory-based articles with a grain of salt substitute.

Basically you are eating empty carbs. I hope you are using lots of vitamin supplements because you are running on empty. Keep an eye on your glucose levels because all those empty carbs are bad for them.

I always cook my eggs in a bit of butter; just enough flavoring and keeps it from clinging to the old "non-stick" pan.
If I can't find grass-fed butter, can't I just mix in some minced weed?

Re: Diet: Does this dude have it right?
My Dr in my bariatric surgery program has three rules which if followed will keep you healthy and nutritionally fit. I just had a verticle gastric Sleeve procedure done Monday the 24th. With an intact normal stomach, a little common sense need to be injected into his rules.
1. Eat LEAN protein first. (this is to keep you satisfied longer after eating. Also if you have had surgery it insures you get enough protein into you small stomach)
Dr Vuong is encouraging us to get most of our protein from fish, seafood, and vegetables because they are the leanest sources. He wants us to minimize our consumption of red meat and chicken since they are not nearly as lean.
2. Fill your pouch (this is where the common sense comes in if you have an intact stomach) with the Most Nutritious Food you can most of the time.
3. You can eat all of the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables you want, any time you want.
By following those rules I lost 100lbs pre-op. and I had a lot more energy to do things. Now that I have had the procedure I will just keep following his rules and I will lose another 150 lbs or so and feel great.
I have been amazed at all of the type 2 diabetics in Dr Vuong's program that were able to discontinue their diabetic drugs including insulin before they even had the surgery. We have weekly support group meetings which Dr. Vuong attends and runs.

Pork rinds are ten times as satisfying as chips or pretzels.
A little goes a long way Fat and protein--just what your body wants.
The 12 steps includes all the points on my healthy star.
Protein, plants (fruits & veggies), water, sleep, carbs balanced with activity.
